LONDON – For a recent Avicii tour, tour director Curly Jobson and production manager Robin Scott relied once again on HSL Group for HSL lighting equipment and crew. The show was designed by Simon Barrington and Ian Tomlinson and directed live by video artist/VJ Harry Bird. It included lighting, video visuals, pyro, special FX and lasers, complementing Avicii’s performance in real-time.

Bandit Lites provided the gear for the event, which was followed by a second event at Toyota Center in Houston in mid-February.
Read More »DALLAS – A new and improved Big Tex was back welcoming guests to the State Fair of Texas last year. The iconic giant cowboy figure, which had been greeting fairgoers since 1952, was destroyed by fire near the end of last year’s State Fair. The rebuilt Big Tex is even bigger, and enhanced this time around by SRO Associates and Texas Scenic and their use of Alcorn McBride’s V4 Pro frame-accurate controller and AM4 Digital Audio Machine.

The vibrant event was a full-on dance competition that showcased the color, style and energy of Bhangra, with eight of the best university Bhangra dance teams in the UK battling for the title. Read More »TA’ QALI, Malta — The lighting support structure for a concert version of the Maltese rock opera Gensna fell at 10:50 a.m. on March 17 and injured four crew members. One of the workers, Emanuel Ronayne, 48, received life-threatening injuries to the chest; the other injuries were not life-threatening. The accident occurred at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre here. Of the four crew members injured, Ronayne and one other were hospitalized; the two others were reportedly treated on site for bruises and shock.
Read More »FRANKFURT, Germany — The 2014 edition of Prolight + Sound finished strong after four days on March 15, with 897 exhibitors from 42 countries on par with stats from the 2013 event (901 from 41 counties) despite the 2014 event’s month-earlier time frame. Combined with Musikmesse, there were a total 2,242 exhibitors from 57 countries, with a total 110,000 visitors from 142 countries attending the March 12-15 event.
