The special event honoring the accomplishments of African-Americans took place Jan. 26 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Carver was challenged with designing an elegant space that would render well on television. House lights were eliminated, and as award winners made their way to the stage from the audience, Carver paid special attention to lighting the audience in addition to the presenters and performers.
