Brilliant Stages Updates Muse Touring Set with Transformable Pyramid of Video Panels

LONDON — Brilliant Stages has designed and constructed the staging and suspended pyramid feature made from LED video panels for Muse’s current tour, Second Law, which tours Europe until Christmas before moving to North America in January 2013. Brilliant has worked on several stages for Muse including the 2009 Resistance tour and subsequent 2010 stadium tour, and the band’s inspirational stage design for their Reading and Leeds anniversary shows in 2011.

Robe for Berlin Festival

BERLIN – Robe moving lights – including 30 MMX Spots and 44 ColorWash 700E ATs – were in action on the Main Stage at the 2012 Berlin Festival, taking place over two days at the former US military base, Tempelhof Airfield. Tilman Schumacher, production lighting designer for the main stage, specified the Robe fixtures, although the rig was based heavily on Steven Douglas’s festival design for headlining act The Killers.

Hardiman Specs Vari-Lite for Evanescence

LONDON – LD Dan Hardiman has specified Philips Vari-Lite fixtures for four British arena concerts by Evanescence. “I’ve specified Vari-Lite fixtures for all Evanescence shows in the past 14 months because they’re the only fixtures that can deliver the same effect regardless of venue, which was essential for a tour that has ranged from clubs to stadiums, and everything in between,” says Hardiman.

Hog 4 Debuts on Muse Tour

LONDON – Longtime Muse LD Oli Metcalfe is the first LD to use the new High End Systems Hog 4 control system. During a string of shows in the UK and Europe, Metcalfe swapped his Full Boar console for the new Hog 4 desk. The designer says he enjoys the extra real estate afforded by the Hog 4, but appreciates the familiar ergonomics of the Hog family of control systems. While getting up to speed with the Hog 4 was effortless for Oli, this tour is Muse’s most complex production to date, with control and networking perfection being integral to its success.

From The Edge Exhibit on Display at NYC Gallery

NEW YORK – Works from a US national exhibit of edgy theatrical designs assembled for the 2011 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space will be shown Dec. 6-16 at La MaMa’s La Galleria in New York. From the Edge, a collection of works from 36 politically compelling productions across America, was commissioned and sponsored by USITT (the United States Institute for Theatre Technology). Included are works from Tony-award winning designer Kevin Adams’ lighting for the Broadway show American Idiot, and Paul Chan’s Waiting for Godot set in post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans, among others.

Robert Juliat Aids Behind the Scenes with iPad Donation

STAMFORD, CT — Behind the Scenes (BTS) got a boost recently from Robert Juliat. The lighting equipment manufacturer donated an iPad for BTS’ raffle event at PLASA Focus, which raised $2,400 for the charity.
