IAVM Recognizes Richard Shaff with ICCC Lifetime Achievement Award

COPPELL, TX — Dave Anderson, director of the International Association for Venue Managers (IAVM) Convention Centers/Exhibit Halls Committee, announced that Richard Shaff, general manager of San Francisco’s Moscone Center and Regional Vice President for SMG, would receive the 2011 International Convention Center Conference (ICCC) Lifetime Achievement Award. CD+M Renovates Lighting Control System for OCCC West Building

ORLANDO — CD+M Lighting Design Group recently completed a $1.6M renovation project at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC). The OCCC, which has 2.1 million square feet of exhibition space, is comprised of two buildings joined by a sky bridge. This project upgraded the lighting controls system in the West building, which houses 141 meeting rooms has 1.1 million square feet of exhibit space.

Studio Berar’s Lighting Designs for EXIT Festival Include Robe Gear

NOVI SAD, Serbia — The four-day EXIT festival drew more than 100,000 to the Petrovardin Fortress on the banks of the River Danube to hear Jamiroquai, Nick Cave, Pulp, James Zabiela, Fedde le Grand, Underworld, Marco Cariola, Beirut, Laibach and other artists perform. Studio Berar, who has supported the festival since it began in 2000, once again included fixtures from Robe in the rig for two of the larger stages.

In Memoriam: Barbara Bodenheimer, 64

PHILADELPHIA — Barbara Solit Bodenheimer, 64, who, with her husband, James, founded Egotrips, a leading trucking and transportation services provider for the touring industry, died after a battle with cancer at her home on Aug. 10. The Bodenheimers founded Egotrips in the early 1970s. Their longtime music artist client list includes, among many others, Elton John and Neil Diamond. Until 2010, Barbara Bodenheimer served as chief financial officer.

Revised Outdoor Event Structures Standard Available for Public Review

NEW YORK — The Rigging Working Group, part of PLASA’s Technical Standards Program, has announced that a revised version of ANSI E1.21 – 2006, Entertainment Technology — Temporary Ground-Supported Structures Used to Cover the Stage Areas and Support Equipment in the Production of Outdoor Entertainment Events, is available for public review. The existing standard covers only the portable stage roofs often used for outdoor events. The new draft version (BSR E1.21 – 201x) covers the design, manufacture, and use of all the portable structures used to support scenery, lighting, and sound equipment, as well as the stage roofs. Structures for the public, such as audience bleachers and food stands, continue to be outside the scope of the draft standard.

NECA Releases Telecommunications Grounding and Bonding Standard

BETHESDA, MD — The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) recently published NECA-BICSI-607-2011, Standard for Telecommunications Bonding and Grounding Planning and Installation Methods for Commercial Buildings (ANSI). The new standard was jointly developed between NECA and Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI). NECA-BICSI 607 is the latest new publication in the National Electrical Installation Standards series published by NECA.
