Chauvet, LEDEngin Kick Off TheatreFace.com Video Interview Series

LAS VEGAS — On Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 2pm EDT/11am PDT, TheatreFace.com, the social network launched by PLSN’s sister publication, Stage Directions, starts a new feature—live, video chat interviews with some of theatre’s biggest movers and shakers. Guests will include designers, artists and industry notables. The series kicks off with an interview with representatives from Chauvet Lighting and LEDEngin with a discussion of lighting innovations for the theatre. TEDxHamburg Uses Martin LED Panels to Display Tweet Bubbles

HAMBURG, Germany — Martin LC Series LED panels were used to visually present Twitter tweets as “tweet bubbles,” part of a multi-media installation at TEDxHamburg in late May. The event, part of the TED nonprofit organization’s “Ideas Worth Spreading” public speaking program, took place at Curio House in Hamburg under the theme, “Realities Rebuilt.” About 22 square meters of LC Series LED panels were installed in the ceiling of the conference space and used to display live data from the global Twitter network related to TEDxHambug.

Wenger Corporation Acquires J.R. Clancy

OWATONNA, MN — Wenger Corporation signed an agreement to acquire theatrical rigging company, J. R. Clancy, Inc. The two companies plan to operate as complementary businesses. J.R. Clancy, led by Bob Theis and Mike Murphy, will remain J.R. Clancy. Wenger, led by Bill Beer, will remain Wenger. The headquarters of J.R. Clancy will remain in Syracuse and the headquarters for Wenger will remain in Owatonna. Both companies anticipated synergies including enhanced product development, buying power and best practices.

Groupe Berger Issues Response to Cheap Trick Show Cancellation

VANCOUVER, BC — On Aug. 1, Cheap Trick canceled a show set for Sept. 1 at the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition). The band, which had been performing shortly before a squall blew down the main stage at the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest on July 17, injuring their driver, said they would not be performing on stages made by Groupe Berger/Mega-Stage until they could be convinced they were safe.
