ORLANDO, FL — From March 5-7, Absen’s Orlando showroom was turned into a classroom as 26 technicians from 17 rental and staging companies participated in the inaugural Absen Certified Engineer (ACE) Training Program, the first program of its kind in the U.S. sponsored by a Chinese LED manufacturer. A second ACE training program will take place later this year.

Casting Crowns Tour Extends Upward Reach of PixelFlex LED Display
NASHVILLE — Casting Crowns production manager Carter Hassebroek and LD Chris Lighthall worked with Peter Streiff at a PixelFlex rental partner Elite Multimedia Productions (EMP) on a 24 by 32 foot (WxH) 20mm LED curtain display for the Christian band’s Thrive tour. The six-by-four panel display (WxH) uses custom rigging hardware to extend the panels’ upward reach.

In Memoriam: Paul Marin, 31
SYDNEY — Paul Marin, 31, whose design work at dance clubs and stages included lighting and laser effects along with set design, died Feb. 14 from Glioblastoma Multiforme, a form of brain cancer. He had been fighting the disease since it was diagnosed last September. Marin had provided the lighting design for events around the world, including Peter Rauhofer’s WORK! party at Roseland Ballroom in New York City, the Circuit Festival in Barcelona, Spain, various gCircuit events, the Sidney Mardi Gras and many more.

USITT in Fort Worth: 250 Exhibitors, 240 Workshops and 5,000 Participants

Jacksonville Church’s Chroma-Q Fixtures Bathe Worshippers in Color
JACKSONVILLE, FL — Celebration Church installed 96 Chroma-Q Inspire fixtures above the seating areas within a recently constructed worship arena here. The church draws more than 12,000 per week to its services, and the Chroma-Q fixtures bring hues from the stage to the seating areas. An additional 16 Inspire fixtures are installed in the worship arena’s lobby areas.
