Stonehenge Center Takes Visitors Back in Time with AV Assist from Electrosonic

WILTSHIRE, U.K. – An installation at Stonehenge’s visitor center got an AV assist from Electrosonic to help newcomers experience the ancient stone formation. One of the main highlights is the ‘Standing in the Stones’ exhibit, a 360-degree virtual experience. Installed by Electrosonic, the exhibit lets visitors stand in a virtual Stonehenge as it is today and in the past. The three-minute film, based on state-of-the-art laser scan images of the stone circle, transports viewers back in time, experiencing the summer and winter solstices of long ago.

GLP Celebrates 20 Year Milestone at PL+S 2014

FRANKFURT – German Light Products celebrated 20 years at the recent Prolight+Sound Show here earlier this month. Udo Künzler, who founded the company in 1994, hosted a get-together attended by the company’s distributors and members of the press. The event, also attended by Kasper Gissel and Mark Ravenhill, featured some of the company’s products hits (and misses) along with observations by industry-leading LDs who have relied upon the gear.

LONDON – Powering a lighting rig with more than 100 fixtures, the Avolites Ai Media Server lit up The Show: R&B Superstars Valentine’s Special, a night of performances by 90’s R&B legends at Wembley Arena here. LD Tom Grant from Siyan Ltd. worked alongside programmer Jack Sayer using Sayer Lighting Productions-supplied gear. The control setup included an Avolites Expert Pro with Titan Mobile Wing to control the lighting and media, which was run from an Avolites Media Ai T4 Media Server.

TAMPA, FL – LD Scott Warner is using four of Robe’s new Robin Cyclones for Icona Pop, the Swedish duo opening for Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz world tour.  Developed by Robe in response to an initial design idea by Warner, the Cyclone is “a high-powered LED wash light with a built-in DMX-controlled fan,” said Warner. Theatrical Media Services of Omaha, NE is providing the fixtures for their touring debut; they were launched at PLASA 2013.

LONDON – For Wayne McGregor’s Tetractys: The Art of Fugue, a ballet for 12 dancers set to Bach that was performed at London’s Royal Opera House in February, set and costume designer Tauba Auerbach worked with programmer Florian Baeumler and the venue’s newly-acquired Hippotizer Rackoon for an assist with the visual design, which paired live performers with geometric graphics.

U.K. TV Show Lines Ski Jump with Ai-Controlled LEDs

LONDON – For The Jump, a show broadcast on U.K.’s Channel 4 that invites celebrities to give ski jumping, bobsledding and other Olympic winter sports a try, lighting director Roger Williams and set designer Patrick Watson used 400 meters of IntelliFLEX LED systems, controlled by Avolites Media’s Ai Server Infinity EX Series. LONDON – For a recent Avicii tour, tour director Curly Jobson and production manager Robin Scott relied once again on HSL Group for HSL lighting equipment and crew. Passion 2014 Atlanta Conference Uses Gear from Bandit Lites

ATLANTA – For the Passion 2014 Atlanta Conference, which drew more than 20,000 university students to Philips Arena here in mid-January for a weekend of worship and teaching, LD Ed White used an octagon of 16 moving video screens as both a scenic and narrative show element. Bandit Lites provided the gear for the event, which was followed by a second event at Toyota Center in Houston in mid-February.

Alcorn McBride Helps Animate Texas State Fair Icon

DALLAS – A new and improved Big Tex was back welcoming guests to the State Fair of Texas last year. The iconic giant cowboy figure, which had been greeting fairgoers since 1952, was destroyed by fire near the end of last year’s State Fair.  The rebuilt Big Tex is even bigger, and enhanced this time around by SRO Associates and Texas Scenic and their use of Alcorn McBride’s V4 Pro frame-accurate controller and AM4 Digital Audio Machine.
