Electrosonic Upgrades Video, Audio System in Texas Spirit Theater

AUSTIN, TX — Electrosonic helped the Bullock Texas State History Museum upgrade its 190-seat 4D Texas Spirit Theater recently. Although the original AV system, also installed by Electrosonic, was still functional, the gear was also a dozen years into its life cycle. For the refurbishment, Electrosonic replaced the existing show control system with an Alcorn McBride V16 Pro show controller and swapped out HD-MPEG video players in favor of a Dataton WATCHOUT video playback system. The project was complete in time for the Nov. 2013 premiere of the short film, Shipwrecked, which supports a new exhibition on the excavation of the barque La Belle, which sank off the Texas coast in 1686.

For RSC’s Richard II, LD and Set Designer Use Chroma-Q Battens for New Visual Effect

STRATFORD-upon-AVON – For the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) recent run of Shakespeare’s Richard II at the RSC’s main Royal Shakespeare Theatre here, set designer Stephen Brimson Lewis and LD Tim Mitchell used Chroma-Q battens to light thousands of meters of fine metal chain. The battens were positioned directly above the chains in a custom containment to shield the units from the audience.

The Lighting Design Group Expands with New Broadcast Lighting Team

NEW YORK – The Lighting Design Group’s office here now has a dedicated broadcast lighting systems design and installation team. Michael Mell has joined the staff as the lead systems designer. Tony Siniscalco is LDG’s new systems project manager. Nic Harris, part of LDG since 2010, has moved from the design staff to become the new team’s technical project manager. Mark London, Executive VP for Operations and Systems at LDG said he is, “pleased to have such a talented, experienced group of people added to our office.”

LONDON — Arriving amid nasty weather and marooned without his luggage, LD Eric Wade nevertheless managed to generate positive reviews for the look of the January makeup shows at London’s O2 Arena  for Maroon 5. (The band’s tour had to shuffle performance dates to meet frontman Adam Levine’s commitments to the U.S. version of The Voice.) Wade included Clay Paky fixtures in the rig.

LD Andy Hurst Lights James Arthur’s U.K. Tour with HSL-Provided Gear

LONDON – LD Andy Hurst took the ‘less is more’ approach to light the first tour of 2012 UK X-Factor winner, James Arthur, who is backed by a six-piece band. Hurst relied on a gear package provided by HSL for a simple and scalable two-truss setup. On the back truss are a mix of eight Vari*Lite VL3000 Spots plus Martin MAC Auras. The front truss features another six VL3000 Spots, six MAC Auras and seven ETC Source Fours. The rig also includes six 4-lite Moles on the frond cord of the front truss and also 17 Robe LEDBeam 100s on the stage floor.
