LightParts is celebrating 10 years of business this year. Don Pugh and Robert Mokry (pictured here, L-R) founded the company in Jan. 2004 as a support center for High End Systems’ legacy products such as Intellabeam and Emulator. It then expanded into circuit board repairs and parts sales for High End, Martin, Flying Pig, Jands, Vari-Lite, Element Labs, Strong, Coemar, Wybron, Elation and Clay Paky products.

BREDA, The Netherlands — Rental house Looijmans Showequipment supplied Clay Paky Sharpys for a dance festival at the 2,500-capacity Chasse Theater here that featured Dutch DJs Funkerman and Gregor Salto. LD Joep van Oosterhout rigged 14 Sharpys to an electronic flybar system surrounding the DJ booth to give the indoor event an outdoor festival vibe.

London’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks Gets Assist from Projection Studio

LONDON — Ross Ashton and the Projection Studio (TPS) worked as consultants to Jack Morton Worldwide, producers of the Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display for the 10th consecutive year. TPS provided the large format video projections system, augmenting the visual component of a multi-sensory celebration that included color-changing LED wristbands, floating bubbles and clouds packing fruit-scented mist and edible banana-flavored confetti particles that dissolve in rain to limit cleanup requirements.

Two Martin M1 consoles ran lighting and video during the show.

XL Video Places $15M Order for LED Products from China

LOS ANGELES — XL Video is spending more than $15 million for a range of new LED products from Chinese suppliers, including Shenzhen-based Unilumin Group Co and its subsidiary Radiant Opto-Elec Technology Co Ltd. The purchase — a record for the company — includes more than 1,200 square meters (12,917 square feet) of LED products that will be available for rent starting in Feb. 2014.
