Chainmaster Gear Handling Heavy Lifting at Winter Olympics Venues

SOCHI, Russia — Several venues to be used Feb. 7-23 for the 2014 Winter Olympics have been equipped with hoists made by Chainmaster. Among the largest: the Bolshoy Ice Dome (pictured here) and the Iceberg Skating Palace, each of which can accommodate 12,000 spectators. Chainmaster, based in Eilenburg, Germany, has been active in Russia and its neighboring countries since 1998. The company opened its Chainmaster Consulting Office Russia in 2004.

LAS VEGAS — Fleetwood Mac and Maroon 5 were among the standout acts on hand in Las Vegas to help ring in the New Year. VER provided Robe fixtures for both gigs, at the MGM Grand Casino and Mandalay Bay Resort Events Center, respectively, including Robin Pointes, LEDWash 1200s and LEDWash 600s. Fleetwood Mac performed its regular touring show Dec. 30 and a 70-minute set for a special New Year’s Eve VIP Party that MGM Grand staged for high-rolling guests Dec. 31.

Marking 100 Years at Grand Central Terminal

To mark 100 years and celebrate the holiday season, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)’s Metro-North Railroad subsidiary and partner Toshiba contracted with designer Michiru Tanaka and Babylon, NY-based Bestek Lighting & Staging, Inc. to add a festive seasonal touch to the west side windows of the Main Concourse at Grand Central Terminal in New York City. Bestek handled engineering, custom hardware, installation labor, programming, technical direction and logistics for the project, and the company’s president, Van Allen Rice, served as project manager onsite.
