Most Las Vegas Cirque Shows Go Dark for World Water Day, March 22

LAS VEGAS — “We would like to reinvent fundraising night,” said Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte to the Las Vegas Review Journal, explaining why six of the seven venues hosting Cirque productions went dark on Friday, March 22, at the height of Spring Break tourist season in Las Vegas. The day is designated “World Water Day” by the One Drop foundation, a charity Laliberte founded to save lives among the world’s poor with sustainable clean water and sanitation systems.

LONDON – For One Direction’s Take Me Home world tour, the production team of Production North, Lite Alternative and Wigwam were brought in. They were to transform the cityscape arena concept of creative designer, Elizabeth Honan, into reality. Production designer Paul Normandale used 30 of SGM’s new X-5 white LED strobes for the first time to replace conventional xenon-driven devices.

Morrissey North American Tour Canceled Due To Health Issues

LINCOLN, NE — Battling health issues that ranged from the diagnosis of a bleeding ulcer in January to pneumonia in both lungs earlier this month, Morrissey, 53, has been forced to cancel the remaining 22 tour dates on his on-again, off-again North American tour, which had been set to run through May 1. There are no plans to reschedule the shows, said Morrissey’s publicist, Lauren Papapietro.

DALLAS – Philips Vari-Lite has released new software for the VLX Wash luminaire which provides individual cell control to the RGBW LED light engines inside. The individual control is achieved through a second DMX mode where users can toggle between combined or individual control.  The new mode only increases the DMX channel count to 72 DMX channels, but users may also still operate the light in the standard mode using 23 DMX channels.

Swedish Singer Petra Touches Heaven with SGM’s LED Balls

STOCKHOLM – Swedish singer songwriter Petra Marklund has been touring with a stage set fabricated largely from more than 3,000 SGM LED Balls (LB-100) rigged as an overhead, interactive spatial canopy. Originally designed as a video light curtain, with low-resolution 120mm pixel pitch, the LB-100 display is made up from long strings, each containing seven white semi-transparent LED balls. Each sphere contains two RGB LEDs to create a 3-D effect when viewed through 360 degrees.
