Empire State Building Projections Bring Attention to Endangered Species
NEW YORK — A large-format, projection-mapping display measuring 375 by 186 feet (HxW) displayed endangered species on the Empire State Building from 9 p.m. to midnight on Aug. 1. Obscura Digital’s Travis Threlkel worked with photographer Louie Psihoyos, who is also executive director of the Oceanic Preservation Society, on the project. The looping reel featured manta rays, birds, reptiles, lions, and even a gorilla that “climbed” to the top of the building. It was powered by 26 Christie Roadster HD20K-J and 12 Christie Roadster S+22K-J projectors provided by Nationwide Video.
