ROME and MILAN, Italy – LD Giovanni Pinna used 68 Robe ROBIN LEDBeam 100s for the stadium concerts by Italian singer/songwriter Vasco Rossi. The LEDBeam 100s were chosen for two very specific tasks – 20 were positioned on the floor of the stage wings shooting up the Vasco logo scenic drops at the sides; the other 48 were divided between four trussing columns on both sides of the PA wings so they could beam right into the audience.

The Academy Nightclub in Canberra, Australia Adds Robe Fixtures, Reduces Power Needs

CANBERRA, Australia – The large Academy nightclub, based here, has been equipped with Robe moving lights. The installation, which triples the previous moving light fixture count, yet chops the power usage in half, includes LEDWash 600s, DLS Spots and Pointes, all from the ROBIN series – eight of each. “We are hearing plenty of comments saying that the club is completely new,” said LD Darren Russell, even though only the lighting rig has changed.

Lighting Gear for Emley Moor Mast Provided by HSL

EMLEY, U.K. – Rental specialist HSL supplied equipment for “Control t’force,” a light art installation created by LD James Bawn, that illuminated the 330 meter high Emley Moor Mast here, the tallest freestanding structure in the U.K. HSL supplied A&O Technology Falcon 6000 searchlights, Robe CitySkape Xtreme LED floods, Chroma-Q Color Force 48 LED battens and Clay Paky Sharpys and a custom Luminex fiber optic system.

2014 Tony Awards Visuals Relied on Hippotizer Media Servers

NEW YORK CITY – This year’s Tony Awards were programmed by Peter Vincent Acken who designed a set-up using a total of 192 layers running over more than 48 DMX universes. The entire set-up comprised 12 active Hippotizer HD outputs, all genlocked and controlled by a grandMA2 lighting console. Acken built his own custom Hippotizer DMX personality to enable control of the 192 layers over the 48 universes. The Hippotizer HDs fed their content to 26 discrete surfaces comprised of 9 and 7 mil LED and HD LED monitors.

George Benson UK Tour Supported by White Light

White Light provided a complete lighting package for George Benson’s 2014 UK Tour. The lighting rig is based around a core of Martin Professional Mac Viper Profiles – while also incorporating conventional fixtures. In addition to fixtures, White Light provided followspots, control, power distribution, effects, and consumables to for the tour. “The Mac Viper Profiles were a great choice,” LD Simon Tutchener said. ”They give a nice bright beam and are very responsive. They offered a lot of flexibility overall.”

Today Show’s Summer Concert Series Lit with Clay Paky B-EYE Fixtures

NEW YORK – For that live music segments featured as part of its Summer Concert Series, NBC’s The Today Show has been using Clay Paky’s A.leda B-EYE K20 LED-based moving lights. LD Peter Greenbaum cited B-EYE’s daylight color as one of his favorite attributes for the fixture.  “We do a lot of interviews with the talent on stage and The Today Show hosts with their backs to the audience,” Greenbaum said.  “We go daylight in the B-EYEs and get a beautiful video level so there’s no need for HMIs.  Their color temperature is pretty amazing.”

MILAN, Italy – “Radio Italia Live” has emerged as an annual showcase for Italian performers since the extravaganza was first staged in 2012 to mark Radio Italia’s 30th anniversary. Designer Giancarlo Toscani opted to make Clay Paky’s A.leda B-EYEs a big part of the 2014’s event’s lighting looks. They joined a rig that was also brightened with Clay Paky Alpha Beam 700s, Alpha Spot HPE 700s, Alpha Wash 700s and Alpha Profile 1500s.
