Vivid Sydney’s Sky Flower Lit with Robe Fixtures

SYDNEY — Simon Brockwell, a U.K.-based light artist and creative director of Dark Art London, is presenting a light sculpture, Sky Flower, as part of the 2014 Vivid Festival of Music, Light & Ideas here from May 23-June 9. Robe partners ULA Group and Elite Sound & Lighting are supporting the project with a Robe MMX Blade, four 600E Beams, four LEDWash 1200s, eight LEDBeam 100s and eight Pointes, all from Robe’s Robin Series, along with four CitySkape Xtremes. A “teaser” image hinting at what the light sculpture will look like appears here.

SYDNEY — Vivid Sydney is brightening Australia’s biggest city as the weather cools and days grow short with outdoor light installations and projections from May 23 to June 9. Technical Direction Company (TDC) is providing 50 Barco projectors, ranging from the 40K HDQ-2K40 to 22K HDF-W26 and FLM-R22+ units. Melodifestivalen Tour Rig Includes 150+ Clay Paky Fixtures

STOCKHOLM, Sweden — The Melodifestivalen (Melody Festival) determines Sweden’s entrant in Europe’s annual Eurovision Song Contest. The 2014 event went from four semifinals in February to a “second chance” round on March 1. The final competition was staged in Stockholm on March 8. LD Fredrik Jönsson’s rig included 131 Clay Paky Sharpys, 26 Sharpy Wash 330s and 14 Alpha Profile 1500s. Starlight provided the gear.

311 Day Concert Lit with Martin Gear

NEW ORLEANS — LD Joe Paradise lit the band 311 for their March 11 concert (a.k.a. 311 Day concert) with gear from Harman’s Martin Professional lighting unit, including 10 Atomic 3000 DMX strobes and a Martin M6 lighting console. The concert took up a sizable chunk of the special day for the band and its fans — there was more than five hours of music.

NASHVILLE — Bandit Lites supported Nashville’s annual Grammy Block Party, a private event for members of the Recording Academy held at Owen Bradley Park on May 13. LD Mike Marcario’s design included Martin MAC 2000 Washes, Martin MAC Auras, GRN Batten 3-36 units, 8-lite moles and PAR 64s, controlled via a grandMA 2 console.
