LAS VEGAS — The captains of the live entertainment and media install industries converge on Las Vegas for the InfoComm show this June, but only one lucky team will be able to carry a Parnelli Classic “First Place” trophy home with them. The PLSN/FOH Parnelli Classic golf tournament will take place Tuesday, June 17 at the Siena Golf Club in Las Vegas, and proceeds will benefit the Parnelli Scholarship fund, supporting the next generation of live entertainment professionals at UNLV.

LONDON — Franz Ferdinand (the band) has been touring in support of their album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, since early March. LD for U.K.’s Celebrity Big Brother Uses Sharpys for “Catwalk of Shame”

LONDON — For the “catwalk of shame” on this year’s edition of the popular British TV series, Celebrity Big Brother, evicted participants had to face the piercing, bright beams of Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures, specified by LD Gurdip Mahal. He used 32 Clay Paky Sharpys, encased in watertight Clay Paky ‘IGLOO’ domes and positioned them in various locations outside and on top of the Big Brother House.

David Patton Named COO of Blue Planet Lighting

LAS VEGAS — Blue Planet Lighting recently named industry veteran David Patton, based here, as the company’s chief operations officer (COO). Patton, who served PRG as GM of PRG Las Vegas and also as national director of lighting operations, also has experience with Cinema Services. At Blue Planet, Patton will oversee all aspects of lighting operations and assist with the company’s current growth and expansion plans.

Eurovision Song Contest Draws 180 Million Viewers

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — The Eurovision Song Contest, with semi-finals and finals staged at B&W Halls here May 6, 8 and 10, drew close to 180 million viewers by the time Austria’s Conchita Wurst was proclaimed the winner. PRG and Martin were official suppliers to the event. Other lighting manufacturers represented in the PRG-supplied rig included GLP, Clay Paky, Philips Vari-Lite and Showtec. SGM, Barco, Mediatec Solutions and d3 also issued news releases noting their support of the event’s visuals. (SGM provided the image of the event included here).

Alcorn McBride Names Brian Macauto Senior Sales Engineer
