LOS ANGELES — Scott Barnes and Joshua Thatcher, who often work together as moving light programmers for the motion picture and television industries, were early adopters with the Hog 4 control platform. “We got our Hog 4 consoles in November of last year, and we were fortunate to get some of the first desks on the West Coast,” said Barnes. “From November to March, we used the new desk for commercials and re-shoots, so by April when we started Captain America 2, I was really comfortable with the Hog 4 and ready to go ‘full tilt boogie.’”

MDA’s “Show of Strength” Gets Boost from Lighting, Video

LOS ANGELES — The MDA Show of Strength telethon, which airs on the ABC network in a two-hour prime time slot on Sunday, Sept. 1, will raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association — and it will once again look completely different from the black-and-white memories Baby Boomers might have of the show’s previous incarnation as the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, which ran from 1966 to 2010.

CAMP MATHER, CA — The fire that charred 348 square miles in and around Yosemite National Park also forced the cancellation of the Strawberry Music Festival that had been set for Aug. 29-Sept. 2. Known as the Rim Fire, due to its proximity to Yosemite’s north rim, the blaze ranks as the fourth largest in California. Thousands of firefighters managed to get it 70 percent contained by Sept. 3.

ICC Soccer Tournament’s LIC Shows Lit with 102 Elation Platinum Beam 5Rs

MIAMI — Life In Color (LIC), founded in 2006 as Dayglow and renamed after its acquisition by Robert F. X. Sillerman’s SFX Entertainment in late 2012, combines EDM music, art, DJs, dancers, aerial acts and fire effects with its trademark paint cannons. The group performed three shows near the end of the 2013 International Champions Cup soccer tournament at Sun Life Stadium here in early August. Collyns Stenzel of Advanced Concert Productions, also an SFX Company, used 102 Elation Platinum Beam 5R fixtures, supplied by The Design Oasis (Davie, FL) and Act Productions (Miami Beach, FL).
