NASHVILLE — AEG Live/TMG Nashville issued a press release noting that, out of an “abundance of caution” relating to “a technical issue with the stage,” a July 12 concert featuring Harry Connick, Jr.  at the Fontanel Mansion here had to be canceled. Refunds were offered to arriving ticketholders and others at the point of purchase; those purchasing tickets via ticketmaster.com received automated refunds.

Harvey Theater Renovates Live Stage for Film Screenings

NEW YORK – The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) wanted to offer film screenings during the “dark” months of summer for its 831-seat Harvey Theater. However, the venue, designed for live performances, required technical revisions to accommodate a high-quality cinema experience for BAM’s patrons. Auerbach Pollock Friedlander worked with BAM and Mitchell/Giurgola Architects to realize BAM’s vision by providing theatre and AV consulting for digital cinema projection and also for new seating.

Cirque du Soleil Production of “KA” Resumes in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — Cirque du Soleil, which had suspended its production of at the MGM Grand here after an aerialist fell and died on June 29, resumed production of the show on July 16. Cirque dedicated that sold-out show to Sarah Guyard-Guillot, the artist who slipped free of her harness and fell a reported 90 feet into the production’s pit while the stage was in a near-vertical position. The 31-year-old performer was the first in Cirque’s 29-year history to die in a show accident.

CINCINNATI – When Newport Aquarium, located just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio, decided to overhaul and renovate its interactive Dive Theater, they called upon the design experts at Full Spectrum, LLC to bring their vision to life. The Newport Aquarium Theater, a 30 ft x 48 ft facility with a 23 ft high ceiling, featured underwater dive-based shows. Its central focal point is one of the largest water tanks in the entire aquarium, with a visible viewing area that measures just under 17 ft x 9 ft.

ISTANBUL, Turkey  – Istanbul-based event engineering company Phantom has supplied a team of Clay Paky Alpha, A.Leda, and Sharpy fixtures to light the 2013 Mediterranean Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Eighteen months of preparation culminated in the June 20 Opening Ceremony of the 17th Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey. LD Jean-François Bonnement from Paris-based visual arts company Concept K specified more than 400 Clay Paky fixtures in his design.
