Elation Helps Transform EDC 2013 into Fantasyland

LAS VEGAS – The most recent Electric Daisy Carnival, held in Las Vegas June 21-23, featured 200 EDM artists on seven stages, alongside theatrical performers, interactive art exhibits and amusement rides. EDC’s sprawling 1,000-acre Las Vegas Speedway site was transformed into a surrealistic fantasy world that made the three-day event a total immersive entertainment experience for the 345,000-plus fans. Five of the festival’s stages featured Elation lighting and video products.

In Memoriam: Frank Ward

MELBOURNE, Australia — Frank Ward, head of production at Arts Centre Melbourne, a concert and theatrical complex that often hosts performances by Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet, the Melbourne Theatre Company and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, passed away recently after a long illness. Ward is survived by his wife, Leisel, and sons Darcy and Spencer. A memorial service is planned for July 17 at Peter Scullin Reserve, Mordialloc, Victoria, at 1:30 pm.

Clay Paky Tours Europe with Chris de Burgh

AUGSBURG, Germany – European singer/songwriter Chris de Burgh is touring Europe with a design created by LD Chris Schatz. The LD, from Klinkertor Studios/Schattenwerk, has chosen 20 Clay Paky Sharpys and a large number of MA Lighting products for the tour. Augusta, GA-based Gruppe 20 has provided the lighting, rigging, audio and transportation for the two-trailer run.

Texas Tenors Sing for grandMA2 in PBS Special

LOS ANGELES – After taking “America’s Got Talent” by storm four years ago, the operatic cowboys known as the Texas Tenors have taped a PBS special on which a grandMA2 light controlled all the lighting fixtures. Known for taking audiences “from Alabama to Puccini,” the Texas Tenors (John Hagen, Marcus Collins and JC Fisher) performed a diverse set at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix with the Phoenix Symphony, the New Life singers and the college’s choir.  The resulting special, “You Should Dream,” will air on PBS stations nationwide.
