The Genre Series: Concerts

One of my favorite things about working as an automated lighting programmer is that there is a vast array of different types of genres to work within. While the basics of programming are the same, there are certain things that are unique to the various types of productions. Over the course of the next few months, I will cover some of the distinctive attributes that you must be aware when programming on specific types of shows. Squeek Lights Goes Rogue for August Burns Red

PHILADELPHIA – Grammy-nominated August Burns Red kicked off its winter tour on Jan. 5 in support of its seventh studio album, Phantom Anthem. From Montreal, where the tour began, to the House of Blues in San Diego and everyplace in between, fans are packing venues to immerse themselves in the band’s raw and powerful brand of metal-tinged music. LD Victor Zeiser of Squeek Lights provided the light show to accompany the band’s thunderous sound using Chauvet Professional Rogue fixtures.

Just Wing It!

Unorganized productions are the body of the chicken flailing around after the head has been chopped off. They are, pun intended, “just wingin’ it.” Organization is the guard dog that keeps the feathery artistic minds of our field contained in the coop of progress….Since I have started working on high profile gigs, I have become complacent. I have started to take daily schedules for granted. They come in my email; I glance at the lighting lobby call time and then discard them as if no one put any serious time and effort into producing them. After my most recent gig, I will never take another schedule for granted.

Fall Out Boy M A N  I  A Tour Setup Includes CyberHoist II Hoists

PHOENIX – For Fall Out Boy’s MANIA tour, which kicked off last fall in the U.S. and Canada, band members would perform on B and C stages that floated above the crowd. The rigging setup included 16 CyberHoist II variable speed chain hoists with a MotionCue 3D console used for control. The MANIA tour, in support of the band’s Jan. 2018 album release, continues this year with shows in Australia, Europe and Asia before returning to North America in late August.
