EDINBURGH, U.K. — Theatre company Paines Plough’s portable Roundabout Theatre has been popping up for performances around the U.K., including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this past summer. Lighting programmer Peter Small opted for Avolites’ Sapphire Touch console to generate pixel mapped effects using 627 LEDs in panels built into the touring venue’s roof.

MIDDLETON, WI — Earlier this year, ETC unveiled the 2014 Theater program, which allows venues to upgrade their existing ETC lighting systems without the need for a costly retrofit. The University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) was one of the first to participate. UNCSA upgraded three of its seven on-campus venues with new ETC dimming systems, including the Agnes de Mille Theatre, a 188-seat proscenium stage used primarily for opera and dance, pictured here..

SEONGNAM, South Korea — As a crowd of about 700 gathered Oct. 17 near an outdoor stage featuring different K-pop bands, some spectators hopped over a short wall to stand on a ventilation grate. The grate and 27 spectators fell more than 60 feet to an underground parking area. Fourteen died on site; two others succumbed from injuries later. The remaining 11 were severely injured.

JERSEY, U.K. – For the nonprofit Branchage Festival, an event pairing live music performances with silent film projection on this Channel Island off France’s northwest Normandy Coast, U.K. projection specialists QED Productions undertook one of their most ambitious projection-mapping challenges yet: to projection-map the seaside environs of St. Aubin’s Fort, located on a tidal island connected to the larger island of Jersey at low tide. The festival took place in Jersey from Sept. 24-28.
