Harman is offering a new front lens replacement kit to turn its MAC Viper AirFX into what is effectively a new fixture, the Martin MAC Viper Beam. The final fixture in the MAC Viper line, the MAC Viper Beam has a linear zoom system that projects a very narrow pencil beam of high-intensity light. It also shares the MAC Viper AirFX’s notable color mixing system and aerial effects, along with its compact form, speed and light quality from the same 1000W source as the other Viper Family luminaires.

ETC Gio Controls Munich Opera Festival

MUNICH – The lighting department of the Bayerischen Staatsoper (Bavarian State Opera), under the direction of Michael Bauer, specified a new ETC Gio lighting control desk for Munich Opera’s recent open-air festival. This year’s Munich Opera Festival, from June to July, kicked off with a spectacle. Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Verdi, and the Bavarian State Opera all marked their 200th birthday this year. To celebrate, the Opera staged Wagner vs. Verdi, a playful competition in which the two great composers meet each other as giant marionettes in the plaza outside the Bavarian State Opera House.

As this tour would travel to South America with active crowds, Plant thought ‘let’s do some flash, some fun’ in the lighting looks to appeal to dance-oriented crowds.”

Daktronics Names Reece A. Kurtenbach CEO, Effective Sept. 1, 2013

BROOKINGS, SD — Daktronics, Inc. named Reece A. Kurtenbach president and CEO, effective Sept. 1, 2013. Kurtenbach will replace James B. Morgan, who is retiring after 44 years with the company. The company had previously announced Morgan’s planned retirement and Kurtenbach’s selection as successor CEO, but a specific date had not been set prior to the Aug. 12 announcement.
