Robe’s T11 Series Products Win 2022 ABTT Lighting Award

Robe enjoyed a successful ABTT (Association of British Theatre Technicians) show at Alexandra Palace in London, UK, a highlight of which was winning the Lighting Product of the Year category of the 2022 ABTT Awards for its T11 fixtures.

Robe’s booth in the main exhibition hall featured a selection of the newest Robe and Anolis brand technologies and ran in tandem with a black box demonstration area downstairs where fixtures were shown ‘in situ.’ RoboSpot workshops were also running downstairs throughout the show for those keen to expand their knowledge of Robe’s remote followspot control system.Read More »Robe’s T11 Series Products Win 2022 ABTT Lighting Award

When Staging Musical Extravaganzas, Collaboration is Key

Composer, producer and “rock star of film music” Hans Zimmer traveled through Europe this spring with his 19-piece band and an orchestra. Lightswitch LD John Featherstone and his team worked with an all-Robe moving light rig, with Satis & Fy supplying 250 Robe fixtures for the first European leg. “Hans is a master at putting collaborators together,” said Featherstone, noting how the design process originally started back in 2019/2020 with Zimmer putting together a creative “dream team” that included, along with Featherstone as LD, Broadway set and scenic designer Derek McLane, video designer Peter Nigrini and choreographer Barry Lather.

Stage Directions has learned of the death of Director Peter Brook on July 2, 2022 at the age of 97, according to his publisher, Nick Hern Books in a statement they released on Twitter: All of us at NHB are very sad to hear of the death of legendary director Peter Brook, at the age of 97. We’re honoured to have been Peter’s publisher for the past twenty years, sharing his wisdom and insights with the world. He leaves behind an incredible artistic legacy. RIP.

New Initiative—The Ruth Foundation for the Arts—Announces Initial Grants

The Ruth Foundation for the Arts (Ruth Arts) has debuted in the landscape of arts philanthropy with the announcement of its inaugural grantmaking cycle. The new foundation is supported by a bequest from the late Ruth DeYoung Kohler II, and expects to award grants totaling more than $17 million annually. The first class of Ruth Arts grantees—an initial round of funding that precedes the regular giving cycles that the organization will embark upon later this year—includes 78 nonprofit arts organizations that have been awarded a total of $1.25 million in funding.
