OneRepublic Headlines 2017 Honda Civic Tour, Lit with Claypaky Fixtures

VANCOUVER, BC Canada – For the 2017 Honda Civic Tour headlined by OneRepublic, production designer/LD Mark Butts collaborated with show designer Raj Kapoor on a lighting rig that includes Claypaky Mythos2 and Sharpy Wash fixtures with grandMA2 consoles for control. Brian Jenkins and A.J. Pen programmed the show, and Pen is out as lighting director. The tour, which wraps up with some September shows near Houston, TX, also features Fitz & The Tantrums and opener James Arthur.

LONDON – The 2017 Knight of Illumination (KOI) Awards has announced this year’s shortlist of lighting and video designers, recognized for their creative work in the Concert Touring & Events sector. The winners will be announced at the 10th anniversary KOI Awards ceremony, to be held at London’s Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, on Sept. 17r. The Concert Touring & Events shortlist is the third and final shortlist to be announced, following the Theatre and Television categories announced in recent weeks.

Set Designers Discuss the Pros and Cons of Turntables

I remember the first time I saw a turntable in action was in a performance during the original run of Les Misérables in the spring of 1987. My teenage self had never experienced a Broadway show before, and it was all rather overwhelming, including the sequence where Jean Valjean races through a series of important events in his life that were represented through rotations on the show’s turntable. While I’ve always recalled that the sequence felt rushed (for the time), it was novel to me, it was state-of-the-art at the time, and it hinted at the direction that moving scenery would head towards in the future.
