You’ve Been Overridden!

Imagine the following scenario: An actor is on stage reciting a monologue. Suddenly, another actor steps in front of the first and begins speaking at a much louder rate, drowning out the first. Because the first actor is no longer contributing to what is happening on stage, he simply vanishes into thin air! This concept might sound crazy, but a similar situation plays out all the time on most automated lighting consoles. Some refer to this behavior as stomping or overriding, and it can be very confusing if not understood by the console programmer or operator.

Normandale’s Head Full of Designs; Summer Tour News

While his design for Coldplay’s “A Head Full of Dreams” world tour made its way to North America, we heard from U.K. production designer/LD Paul Normandale, who was winging his way to Chicago to make sure the show was playing out as planned. When asked to describe his design in one sentence — as there’s no space to cover the entire production here — he says it’s “a cascading waterfall of vivid stars.”

GHENT, Belgium  – At the end of July every year, two million visitors gather on the medieval streets and market squares of Ghent, Belgium, for the annual 10-day Gentse Feesten, a music and arts festival with a 160-year pedigree. One of the more prominent stages is at the historic Sint-Baafsplein square. For that stage, LD Vince de Schinckel specified 16 Chauvet Professional Maverick MK2 Washes, 16 Maverick MK2 Spots, six Strike 4s and two Atmos smoke machines from Belgian rental specialists Euro PAl.

Elation ZCL Series LED Effect Lights

Elation Professional’s new ZCL Series fixtures are designed to serve as high-output ACL-type LED effect lights with zoom.  ZCL Series fixtures combine RGBW multi-chip light sources with a 4° to 44° zoom, giving these dynamic effect lighting fixtures an added degree of flexibility. The Zooming Collimator Lens system is designed to produce a homogenized 4° color-changing beam from each lens. Strobe effects and full-range electronic dimming with dimming curve effects add to the design possibilities. The ZCL Series includes the ZCL 360 Bar, a versatile continuous rotation moving bar effect luminaire with zoom; the ZCL 360i, a single-beam continuous rotation moving effect luminaire with zoom; and the ZCL BAR Z300 IP, a versatile IP65-rated bar effect luminaire with zoom.  The fixtures, first shown at the Prolight + Sound trade show in Frankfurt, Germany in April, are now available.

WorldStage Supports ABZU Booth at E3 2016 with Blackbird 55 Transparent HD Displays

LOS ANGELES – In a convention packed with game titles highlighting combat, warfare and action sports, ABZU’s booth at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016 (E3) was a sea of calm.  The blue-toned booth, in the lobby of the West Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center, had a sublime underwater aesthetic.  At the forefront, a tower of transparent Blackbird 55 displays, provided by WorldStage, captured visitors’ attention with its underwater imagery.
