LONDON – The very final leg of Barry Manilow’s “One Last Time” farewell tour saw the legendary singer play arenas in nine cities across the UK, culminating in a show stopping performance at London’s O2, with lighting equipment and crew supplied by Blackburn based HSL. Creative Director Seth Jackson designed and specified the rig as part of an elegant and stylish design to help ensure the star’s incredible live touring performances would linger much longer in the hearts, minds and memories of his hugely enthusiastic fan-base as this seminal ‘touring’ element of his career comes to an end.

SHEFFIELD, U.K. – For the Sheffield People’s Theatre production of A Dream, described as a “modern-day mash up of Shakespearan romance,” the production team made use of ModTruss as a structural piece of scenery. The structure was a 37 by 19 foot platform on 8-foot uprights. It was made up of the three available sizes of aluminum ModTruss – 3″, 6″ and 12″. The production was presented in Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre.

MUNICH, Germany and SAINT-QUENTIN, France – Osram purchased ADB TTV SAS, also known as ADB Lighting Technologies, on Aug. 3, and will run the company going forward as part of its Clay Paky lighting subsidiary. ADB, founded in Belgium in 1920, ran as a family business until 1987 when it was acquired by the Siemens Group. Under Siemens, it expanded from a maker of digital dimmers, memory control systems and condenser optics for theatre spotlights and emerged as a broadline manufacturer with facilities in Belgium and France,and a sales unit in Germany. Christian Léonard, then General Manager of ADB-TTV France, led a management buyout in late 2002. The company is now based in Saint-Quentin, with R&D, Product Engineering, Marketing and International Sales still located in Belgium.

VENTURA, CA – Total Structures announced that, after successful testing of several models, Pointman Electric Chain Hoists have been approved for use with the Elevation drive system from Kinesys. Currently hoists are available in 1⁄4 Ton, 1⁄2 Ton and 1 Ton capacities, with maximum speeds ranging from 40 to more than 70 feet per minute. ATLANTA – Rapper Gucci Mane recently made his grand comeback at The Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia with production design by DK Production Design LLC and full lighting, audio, and video production support by JR Lighting Design, Inc. The production featured special appearances by Drake, Two Chainz, and Fetty Wap. Production Designer Daunte Kenner and Lighting Designer Brandon J. Clark from DK Production Design reached out to JR Lighting one week prior to the show (having previously worked together on the Tinashe World Tour).

SWITZERLAND – The Gotthard Base Tunnel, a milestone feat of human engineering that cost nine lives and $12+ billion over 17 years of construction, is officially open. Traversing 37.5 miles beneath the Swiss Alps, and including more than 93 miles of tube excavation for rail service between Erstfeld and Bodio, the project drew even more notice with a decidedly avant garde opening ceremony staged by Volker Hesse on June 1. The lighting design by LD Rolf Derrer made use of 140 GLP impression X4 Bars, supplied by Wohlen-based Winkler Multi Media Events.

LAS VEGAS – Tweny years after the first Electric Daisy Carnival, and the sixth year since the event moved from the Los Angeles area to Las Vegas, EDC 2016 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway updated the Circuit Grounds performance arena by expanding it enough to accommodate twice as many people as previous years. To light the massive area, production and lighting designer Steve Lieberman of SJ Lighting used nearly 850 Elation Professional LED luminaires.

LIMA, Peru – The new Clay Paky Scenius Spot has landed in South America for the first time and is dubbed ‘fixture of choice’ by prolific lighting designer Mario Raez in the Peruvian staging of jukebox classic Mamma Mia at the Teatro Peruano Japones in Lima. Raez is the first lighting designer in South America to put the Scenius Spot through its paces, employing six of the units in his show.
