PHILADELPHIA – For the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Starlite Productions of Moorestown, NJ and The Lighting Practice of Philadelphia, PA collaborated on a number of projects to enhance the look of Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station and City Hall. The lighting design for each landmark dictated a combination of powerful LED-wash lights as well as long-throw profile units for pattern projection of the various patriotic themed elements.

Swimming trials are becoming a popular spectator event with cities competing fiercely to win the rights to host them. Butch Allen Gives 98 Degrees Tour Big Looks with Maverick MK2 Wash Fixtures

HUBER HEIGHTS, OH — For the current 98 Degrees tour, designer Butch Allen is using a rig that includes 24 Chauvet Professional Maverick MK2 Washes supplied by RK Diversified Entertainment. Dubbed the “My2K” tour, the trek evokes nostalgia for the music of the 1990s and early 2000s with its reference to the Y2K computer scare. 98 Degrees is joined by O-Town, Dream, and singer Ryan Cabrera on the journey, which launched near Wichita, KS on July 8 and wraps up in San Francisco in late August.

Eclectic Visuals at Glastonbury 2016 Rely on Avolites Consoles and Media Servers

GLASTONBURY, UK –  For nearly 40 years, Avolites equipment has been found surviving the mud in each corner of the Glastonbury Festival. This year the British manufacturer’s consoles and media servers once again managed a wide swath of the impressive visuals supporting the music on the various stages, including the main stages and secondary performance spaces as well. They included the Pyramid Stage (powered by Avolites ART2000 dimmers), the Other stage, the John Peel stage, the West Holts stage, the Acoustic stage, the Arcadia Spectacular and The Temple immersive dance environment, and also the afterhours areas such as the Unfairground art field.

The Adelaide Convention Centre in Australia Gears Up with More High End Systems Consoles

ADELAIDE, Australia – The Adelaide Convention Centre has added to its already ample fleet of High End Systems consoles with the purchase of two Full Boar 4’s and six Road Hog 4’s, bringing their inventory to four Full Boar 4’s and ten Road Hog 4’s in total. The purchase is part of the plan for the anticipated mid-2017 opening of their new Plenary Building, a multi-purpose venue built on the site of the original 1987 Convention Centre, with a capacity of up to 3,500 seats.

NASHVILLE – Sam Hunt’s musical career reached new heights these past couple of years with two Grammy nominations, five top 10 singles on the Hot Country Songs chart, and his first headlining tour. Lighting designer Taylor Price worked closely with production manager Graig Clinton and the artist and his management team to come up with the design. Price was given a lot of creative freedom to make this rig unique and versatile enough to work at both his headlining and supporting acts. He turned to 4Wall Nashville for an upgraded lighting package for Hunt’s 2016 tour.

SONICtower, Part of Singapore Light Art Festival, Equipped with Martin Lighting, Control Solutions

SINGAPORE—i Light Marina Bay, a light art festival, dazzled visitors to Singapore’s Marina Bay waterfront area from March 4-27 this year. A key feature was SONICtower (pictured here), an outdoor art installation by Sound Media Artist Zulkifle Mahmod (a.k.a. ZUL). SONICtower made use of a mix of Martin VDO Sceptron 10 outdoor rated LED video fixtures (30 each in 320 mm and 1000 mm), powered by a P3 PowerPort 1500 integrated power and data processor, all coordinated with a P3-200 System Controller. The outdoor lighting system included a Martin Exterior Wash 310 quad color LED (RGBW) programmed with a M2GO controller.

Manchester, U.K. Venue Launches 11-Day Festival; New and Old MDG Units Add to the Atmosphere

MANCHESTER, UK – The Lowry, a venue located in the Manchester area launched its first festival of arts, Week 53, from April 28 to May 8. The 11-day festival, which brought together contemporary dance, visual arts, music and theatre in interactive installations, exhibitions and performances, featured more than 200 international artists, and will be held annually for the next three years with a view to extend into the future. A recently purchased ATMe haze generator joined The Lowry’s 15-year old MDG Atmosphere unit.

Hong Kong-Based Stage Tech Limited Using Milos Truss for Custom Applications

HONG KONG – Stage Tech Limited, a Hong Kong-based production company, has been using truss products from Milos for a variety of custom projects, fulfilling their stated promise to clients of “highlighting your ideas, enchanting your guests and making special occasions even more memorable.” In particular, they have used the Milos M400 range of truss for a variety of custom installations in public places within Hong Kong. Among their many creations is a hanging sculpture in Pacific Place shopping mall for its 25th Anniversary celebration and a hanging goat display at the PMQ Goat ARTventure exhibition gallery.
