What’s Wrong with the Shelf?

I’m a firm believer that just about any light fixture is worth something to a show. I like old conventional fixtures, especially weird stuff that nobody else is using. I find big old 2K Lekos useful. I will still find uses for old moving lights that nobody else wants. Basically, I can often find a treasure chest of lighting fixtures that never get used — on a vendor’s shelf.

Getting Focused

One of the key jobs of any automated lighting programmer or operator is to create and maintain the position of the moving lights. By utilizing console features such as palettes/presets these pre-stored positions are the basis of every look. Hopefully you know and understand the importance of palettes/presets already and know they should always be used in place of hard values for positions. Actually creating or updating these positions is an essential skill for any console programmer or operator.

Air Canada Centre in Toronto Using Christie Video Projection Supplied by Solotech

TORONTO – When the National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leafs step onto the Air Canada Centre ice for each home game, they are greeted by a celebration of their rich history with a stunning on-ice projection mapping display. Installed by Solotech, the 12 Christie  Roadster WU20K-J projectors are stacked in six sets of two around the arena and help celebrate a team with 13 Stanley Cup titles and its ‘Leaf Nation’ fan base.

Kinesys USA Draws 50+ for U.S. Training Event in Georgia

LITHIA SPRINGS, GA. – Motion control systems manufacturer Kinesys held a training event and open-house in its USA facility that  was attended by more than 50 people connected to the world of rigging automation and its application in the live entertainment industry. The format included two days of technical and operator training on Kinesys products, presented by David Martin (Head of Training – Kinesys USA), which catered for a range of ability and experience levels. This was followed by two days of general ‘open-house’ product awareness sessions for potential clients, existing customers and associates.
