LAS VEGAS — Czech Republic-based lighting manufacturer Robe Lighting named Thommy Hall, based here, as regional sales manager of the Western U.S., effective March 24. Hall comes to Robe from Philips Lighting, where he served as western regional sales manager. Robe Lighting is expanding its reach in the U.S. under new CEO Bob Schacherl. The company said Hall’s appointment is one of several new appointments that it expects to be announcing in the near future.

SOCHI, Russia – For the Winter Paralympic Games, LD Durham Marenghi used a lighting rig originally specified for the Winter Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies to create a dramatic new design. “Most of the equipment was supplied and installed by PRG and the system already, included a large array of Sharpys and Sharpy Washes. We added some Clay Paky Alpha Profile 1500 and A.leda B-Eye K10 for specific tasks in the Paralympics,” he said.

TALLINN, Estonia – LD Rene Johve’s design for The Song of Estonia competition, whose winner represents the country in the Eurovision Song Contest, used more 80 Robe moving lights, including 32 Robin Pointes. The Pointes were used to create the core look and feel of most of the major lighting scenes in conjunction with the set lighting.

ARLINGTON, TX – Las Vegas to Wyoming to Nashville, GoVision, based here, has been busy of late, crisscrossing the country in support of more than 20 events. GoVision constructed and suspended four massive LED screens beneath the 60-yard-long video screens at AT&T Stadium’s (a.k.a. Cowboys Stadium) to let fans seated courtside at the 2014 NCAA’s Final Four basketball championships watch replays and see the scoreboard.

The 2014 edition of Prolight + Sound finished strong after four days on March 15, with 897 exhibitors from 42 countries on par with stats from the 2013 event (901 from 41 countries) despite the 2014 event’s month-earlier time frame. Combined with Musikmesse, there were a total 2,242 exhibitors from 57 countries, with a total 110,000 visitors from 142 countries. PL+S/Musikmesse once again featured a wide array of conferences, presentations and workshops and informal networking opportunities for the live events industry.
