Christien Methot Debuts His Light:Bridge Across the Seine in Paris

International Light Artist Christien Methot enabled Parisians to see their beloved Seine River in a new light when he created the world’s first Light:Bridge with Ayrton Cobra phosphor laser source luminaires. For one July night, Methot, the Principal Lighting Designer at New York City-based Design One Lighting Design, used 10 powerful parallel beams of light to project a ‘bridge’ across the water near the Passerelle Leopold-Sedar-Senghor footbridge, which links the Left Bank’s Musee d’Orsay with the Right Bank’s Jardin des Tuileries.  From far away the light beams appeared to be a sturdy, physical crossing.  But as people approached it, the ethereal nature of a bridge built of light was revealed.

A Projection Problem (and Solution) for Adele’s Vegas Residency

PLSN spoke with Silent House Studios LD Cory FitzGerald and STUFISH Senior Partner Ric Lipson on their design for Weekends with Adele at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. “One of the big challenges was finding a fabric that we could project onto that would be bright and clear but that would also be dark enough when you didn’t want it to be lit with projectors,” noted Lipson. “We worked with a company called Carbon Black. This is putting your money where your mouth is…it really is a team effort.

The entertainment technology and production industry is absolutely a team effort and concert touring is a segment that exemplifies this night after night, city after city. So, it is always nice to hear about the numerous artists that take care of, and show appreciation for the efforts of, their entire production team and crew.
