Yanni Performas at the Great Pyramids of Egypt with Martin Fixtures

GIZA, Egypt — For Yanni’s sold-out, two-show run at the Great Pyramids of Egypt, which took place over the 2015 Halloween weekend, Prolite Event Solutions provided Martin’s MAC Viper AirFXs, MAC Quantum Washes, MAC 2000 Profiles and MAC 700 Washes. The shows were captured in 4K high-definition audio/video and will air in March as part of a PBS special entitled “Yanni: The Dream Concert – Live from the Great Pyramids of Egypt,” which will also be released on DVD and Blu-ray.

A Christmas Wish List, Fulfilled

It’s the start of a new year, and I wish you all a great upcoming one. I will always be a lighting designer foremost, even if I don’t practice the craft as often as I did before becoming an editor. So my Christmas wish list is always for new lighting toys. I’m glad to see the birth of some new lighting products in the last year as well as the retooling of some old fixtures that have come back from the dead. I took a few minutes to list some of the new tools in my toy box that I personally would love to get my hands on.

‘The Illusionists’ on Broadway

The magic spectacle of The Illusionists — Live On Broadway recently offered that rare break from plays and musicals for something more offbeat and interactive. Featuring seven magicians with different skills — from the comedy hijinks of The Trickster to the death-defying stunts of The Daredevil to the fast-paced moves of The Deceptionist — the two-hour plus show is packed with all manner of dazzling illusions and is one of those rare shows that flies by. It begins its national tour in February.

The Weeknd recently wrapped up the sold-out The Madness Fall Tour, which was in support of the artist’s second studio album, Beauty Behind the Madness. Known by the stage name The Weeknd, Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer Abel Tesfaye wanted to build on the success of the album with the tour through extremely effective use of production elements to support his music. Production and lighting designer LeRoy Bennett, one of the principals in Seven Design Works, was asked to realize that goal.

SHANGHAI, China – The Shanghai Grand Theatre (SGT) featured performances by the Martha Graham Dance Company. LD Nick Hung lit Graham’s classics with Source Four LED luminaires controlled by a Gio lighting-control system. ETC’s Chinese dealer, Hangzhou YiDaShi Lighting Equipment Co., Ltd., also played a significant role in the event by providing technical support for the show.
