LISBON, Portugal — Rock in Rio may have gotten its start in Rio, with festivals staged there in 1985, 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2013, but the music festival has been able to successfully export its event overseas, with six events in Lisbon, Portugal (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014) and three in Madrid, Spain (2008, 2010 and 2012). A 2015 event is set for the U.S. (Las Vegas).

LOS ANGELES — The 14th BET Awards, broadcast live from Nokia Theatre June 29, capped off a weekend of live performances running from June 27-29 at the Staples Center and Club Nokia collectively called the BET Experience at L.A. Live. At Staples Center, performers included Maxwell and Jill Scott (June 27), OutKast and Rick Ross (June 28) and Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz and Jennifer Hudson (June 28). Visions Lighting provided visual support that included 64 Nexus 4×4 LED panels from Chauvet Professional.

Creative Conners Improves Revolver Mechanism for Stage Turntables

Creative Conners, based in Warren, RI, responded to the need from production company Stage House to have more surface contact between Creative Conners’ Revolver stage turntable mechanism and a drive ring mounted to the underside of the turntable. As a result, the company has modified their Revolver to provide better engagement between the 8” friction wheel of the machine and the drive ring of any existing turntable. The new design also gives operators easier access for maintenance on the friction wheel.

Tobin Center’s H-E-B Hall Gets Lift from Tait

SAN ANTONIO — The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts opened Sept. 5 in San Antonio’s old Municipal Auditorium, which dates from 1926. The repurposed venue includes the 1,759-seat H-E-B Performance Hall, which has been equipped with a custom stage lift provided by Tait (Lititz, PA) and its sister companies Stage Technologies (Las Vegas) and Delstar Engineering in the U.K.

LINO LAKES, Minnesota – Fast-growing Eagle Brook Church now has six locations for 18,000 congregants in the Twin Cities area, with churchs in Lino Lakes, Blaine, Coon Rapids, Spring Lake Park, White Bear Lake and Woodbury, MN. MANNHEIM, Germany — German rock band Böhse Onkelz (Bad Uncles) performed a reunion show on one of the largest stages ever constructed in Europe. The event was staged at the Hockenheimring race track, south of Mannheim, and drew close to 200,000 fans. On stage were four 35-meter high LED towers, spanning over one hundred meters, which were pixel mapped with an assist from Avolites Media’s Ai S8 HD media servers provided by Einstein and Sons.
