SYRACUSE, NY — USITT approved free stage rigging inspections and safety training for a dozen more schools this spring through its Rigging Safety Initiative. With this round of funding, USITT brings stage safety to schools in New York State, Massachusetts, Illinois, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, and Missouri. USITT’s Rigging Safety Initiative began with a $10,000 grant from JR Clancy in 2011.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — The 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, staged at B&W Halls here, included semi-finals on May 6 and May 8 and finals on May 10. The international singing talent competition was noted for its strong, masculine look this year — without forgoing the gold, glitter and glamour for which it’s known — and a cube-shaped central stage. Mediatec Solutions relied upon a visual system that included d3 Technologies’ 4U v2.5 media server at its core. The contest was seen by an estimated 180 million viewers in 45 countries.

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka —MOS Sound & Light recently provided full production services for a major concert by Greek composer/keyboardist Yanni. The lighting plot from LD Bud Horowitz called for a different brand of lighting fixture, but since those fixtures were not available for the show, MOS provided both the Spot and Wash versions of PR Lighting’s XL 1200 fixture. They proved to be an acceptable substitute.
