Strictly FX Enhances 2013 Latin Billboard Awards

CHICAGO – To help the 2013 Latin Billboards Awards make a strong visual impression, Media Designer and Screens Director Scott Chmielewski called on the laser experts at Strictly FX to create his vision of combining video content with lasers. Strictly FX Partner and Visuals Director Ted Maccabee gave Chmielewski a reluctant nod to the project. Maccabee sayss, “They were looking for a sustained creative image accent generated by lasers, which is more of an artistic visual than what’s typically done with lasers.” Says Chmielewski, “I was really amazed at the way it turned out, and it really opened up some ideas for me.”

“Matilda,” “Lucky Guy” and “The Nance” Take Top Tony Honors for Lighting, Scenic Design

NEW YORK — Matilda the Musical garnered top Tony honors in the Musical category for both Lighting and Scenic Design. Tony winners for Lighting and Scenic Design in the Play category were Lucky Guy and The Nance. The award for Best Musical and Best Play went, respectively, to Kinky Boots and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. The awards were presented at Radio City Music Hall June 9.

Charges Filed in Radiohead Staging Collapse

TORONTO — The Ontario Ministry of Labor, which has been investigating what led to the structural collapse that killed drum tech Scott Johnson, 33, on June 16, 2012, filed eight charges against Live Nation Canada Inc. and Live Nation Ontario Concerts GP Inc., four charges against Optex Staging & Services Inc., and a single charge against Domenic Cugliari, an engineer based in Bolton, ON, according to reports.

WEE WAA, Australia – The small Australian town of Wee Waa made the headlines last month by hosting the official global launch party for Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories. Daft Punk’s production house Daft Arts conceived and designed the space, described as a cross between Saturday Night Fever and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. The dance floor, which resembled an LP record, comprised of 110 Martin LC Panels and 16 Martin LC Plus Panels.
