It was in 1985 when Hansen set off in his wheelchair on his Man in Motion World Tour, covering 40,000 kilometers through 34 countries in over 26 months to raise funds for spinal cord research.

The Hometown Hero ballot will be posted throughout July, and PLSN readers will then get the chance to select which, among all the nominees, is most deserving of the honor in five U.S. regions and all of Canada. The regional winners will appear on the Parnelli Awards ballot for a final round of voting in August.
