Sacramento’s Art-Filled Terminal Opens with LEDs

SACRAMENTO, CA – Sacramento International Airport’s new Terminal B opened with a gala public event Oct. 1 to celebrate the new art-filled terminal. Dion Cook of Sacramento Production Lighting supported the event with LED gear including Blizzard Lighting’s Puck3 flat LED par cans, which lit the main stage and provided truss toning for the event.

Jands Vista v2 Controls Adele’s International Tour

LONDON – LD Rob Sinclair’s design for Adele’s international tour this year featured a distinctive back wall of 96 cone-shaped lampshades using 60-watt incandescent household bulbs to illuminate them. The rest of the show featured moving lights that didn’t move, and lots of white light, to allow Adele’s voice to be the star. Jands Vista v2 software controlled the show.

NEW CASTLE, DE – The family entertainment tour, “Yo Gabba Gabba! Live – It’s Time to Dance,”  is taking kids’ shows up a notch production-wise. A light goes out, a cue is missed, but the show must go on. Too many times I have been backstage and a glitch happens before or during the show. Being resourceful and talented people, we find a way to fix the problem and move on. Sometimes it is not the best solution, or even the safest, but the show must go on. We make that square peg fit into the round hole.

In Memoriam: Andy Figueroa Jr., Marvin Gelman

ARTESIA, CA and WESTPORT, CT — The lighting industry lost two of its own in late November: Andy Figueroa Jr., 30, died after a Nov. 27 car accident in his hometown; Marvin Gelman, 84, founder of Lighting Services Inc. (LSI), an architectural lighting products manufacturer, died Nov. 29 of complications from cancer. Figueroa, known as “Andy Fig Jr.,” was the son of lighting programmer/director Andrew Figueroa, Sr. and had emerged as a prominent lighting tech/lighting director himself. Gelman, who retired from LSI in 2000, is credited for many advances in track, accent and display lighting.
