Exhibition in Milan Relies on Precise Color from ETC Selador Gear

MILAN, Italy — As part of the Salone del Mobile home furnishing exhibition here, LD Paul Cocksedge relied upon precise colors projected from 80 ETC Selador Classic Ice LED fixtures in an exhibition space that projected both lighting and video onto an 82-foot-long, curved white wall. Visitors would not be able to see the video, however, until they viewed the wall through a red light shade.

When Opportunity Calls…PICK IT UP

A few weeks ago, I received a phone call from a friend that I haven’t heard from in months. I was excited to hear from him since we’ve been trying to find time to head down to the Potomac River and do some fly fishing together. This wasn’t that call. He was in a “panic” to find a programmer for a show he had coming up in less than a week and asked if I could do it. Quickly looking over my schedule, I could fit it in. “PERFECT!” he said. Before I knew it, I committed to the gig. For this particular friend, I would walk through hell and back. I didn’t realize until later that I’d signed up for 14-hour days — after a week’s worth of travel.

Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas 2011

Three Electric Nights in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — The Electric Daisy Carnival’s dusk-to-dawn electronic music and arts extravaganza moved from Los Angeles to Las Vegas this summer, adding a third night to the schedule. AG Lighting, Felix Lighting and Visions Lighting served as primary lighting gear providers for the five-stage event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The total attendee count was near 250,000, far exceeding the 130,000 who attended the two-day event in Los Angeles last year — even topping Coachella’s 2011 turnout.

The Motherf**ker With The Hat

Stephen Aldy Guirgis’ play, The Motherf**ker With the Hat, automatically created a stir with its bleeped title (it was referred to as The Mother With the Hat during this year’s Tony Awards ceremony), and it definitely created a reaction among its audience. Many people who probably expected to see a lot of co-star Chris Rock’s comedic shtick were treated to a powerful show about a recovering alcoholic, played by Tony nominee Bobby Cannavale (one of six nominees on the show), coping with his own weaknesses and his girlfriend’s perceived infidelity while dealing with the dubious motivations and wisdom of his AA sponsor, played by Rock.

InfoComm11 Show Report

Show Report: InfoComm11

New Technologies and Biggest Orlando Turnout Yet

InfoComm11 was a record-setter — more than 33,000 attendees poured through Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center West Hall to learn about new Pro AV products and services. With a wide assortment of new products to view, three days (June 15-17) seemed hardly enough time — and to cover every product, we’d need a whole issue. Instead, we include some of the more noteworthy product developments here, and you can find expanded coverage of InfoComm11 and additional photos at www.ProLightingSpace.com.

Chauvet WELL

Uplighting WELL with Chauvet

Wires, wires, wires everywhere. We have all been there. Whether they’re on the truss or the ground, we’ve spent countless hours dressing cables for neatness and safety. A huge amount of time and tape can be devoted to this one aspect of the production. This is all before the production even happens! Just as much time can be spent picking up the gaff tape and cords and storing them.

Setup for Hot Wheels Fearless at the 500

Hot Wheels Plays for Real

Remember how, as a kid, you’d take a Hot Wheels track, hook it up to something like a door, and create some psycho-jump ramp? Then you’d pick your favorite car, and let it fly down and watch it careen into the air accompanied by whatever race car sounds you could vocalize? Scott Humphrey does because he did it more recently than you or I. Not sure whether he made race-car sounds though — he certainly didn’t need to because he did it for real.
