DALLAS — Owned and managed by the City of Dallas, the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center is home to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Called “one of the greatest concert halls in the world,” the complex open-space hall boasts elaborate acoustic accommodations. Premier League All Stars Kicks Off with HSL

LONDON — HSL supplied over 80 moving lights and nearly 150 digital lighting fixtures for Lighting Designer Tom Kinane at the Premier League All Stars tournament. This was staged at the state-of-the-art David Beckham Academy in Greenwich, London, broadcast on Sky One and attended by live audiences. Kinane has worked with HSL on other shows including the first series of “Dancing on Ice," and he once again wanted them on the case providing the show’s specialist lighting requirements. The project was handled for HSL by Sean McGlone.

Jazz Festival Lights Up Catalina Island

CATALINA ISLAND, CA — The historic Catalina Casino Ballroom was home to Art Good’s 20th annual three weeklong Jazztrax show. The 360 degree seaside venue’s limited power and rigging points “presented myriad technical challenges as we met the needs for 20 headlining artists such as Midi Abair, Ray Parker, Jr. and Peter White,” said Project Manager Ryan Steidinger.

Casino’s and Beaches… Please, you read, great success!

Yeah yeah! Welcome back to the Notebook. Let’s jump right into it, so we pick up with the show at Calypso Bay Casino in North Lake Tahoe. Not only was there beautiful scenery, there was a fun lighting system full of Martin Mac spots and washes. The Martin light jockey was used for the systems control via an ETC smartfade along with some par cans and a calibrated computer touch screen monitor. The gig was a great success and I got to win $50 on slots afterwards. I soon headed back to the hotel to catch some shut eye for a long few travel days over to Florida.

Digital Lighting University Goes to Holland

DELFT, HOLLAND — High End Systems Inc. and Dutch dealer Improve recently held a Digital Lighting University in Holland. Forty lighting and video designers and technicians hosted the two-day program Oct. 8-9. The intimate, hands-on curriculum taught the intricacies of products such as DL.1 and DL.2, along with the Axon media server and other digital products.
