THE DESIGN: “Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson are relatively hands-off in terms of day-to-day design. My mentor, LD Dale Doucette has been running this show for a decade, so his style and rapport with the band are well established. We are cautious about strobes and haze; my job is to provide the biggest looking show I can with contrast and movement carrying the visual interest— no matter the rig. We carried gear on the summer “Rock Hall Three for All” tour with Cheap Trick and Joan Jett; for this autumn leg we’re using house and local rigs. This has taught me how to build a show efficiently. In three days I may have three different consoles and rigs, so keeping a consistent feel makes each show feel like a Heart show.”

Five Finger Death Punch (5FDP) and Shinedown are on a co-headlining tour which also features Sixx: A.M. and As Lions, playing arenas across the nation. We spoke with some of the production crew — 5FDP production manager Bruce Reiter along with their lighting designer/director and tour manager Brandon Webster. Then, for Shinedown, we talked with production designer and lighting programmer Sooner Routhier of SRae Productions and lighting director Carter Fulghum.
Pet Shop Boys ‘Super’ Tour
The Pet Shop Boys’ Super tour has been wowing fans in the U.S. and Europe with visual splendor from the creative minds of Es Devlin, the tour’s creative director; and Rob Sinclair, the lighting designer. Both have been collaborators on past Pet Shop Boys tours with the band’s own Neil Tennant (vocals & guitar) and Chris Lowe (keyboards). We spoke at length with Devlin, Sinclair and Jack James, the video & projection creative director with Really Creative Media, and touched base with ER Productions’ Andrew Turner and Marc Webber on the laser looks for this tour (see sidebar, page 28) which will continue into 2017.
