For this year’s 20th Annual Parnelli Awards, on Friday, June 3, the Parnelli Visionary Award will be presented to Designer Peter Morse. This Parnelli Visionary has received quite a few other awards and nominations during his illustrious career: He was named the Parnelli Lighting Designer of the Year in 2004 and won four Cable Ace Awards; two LDI Awards; a Performance Magazine Award; was nominated for an Emmy in 1995, 1997, 2000, 2001; and won the Emmy in 1997 for Bette Midler’s Diva, Las Vegas HBO Special. Morse will now add the Parnelli Visionary Award for his extraordinary career lighting some of the biggest musical artists of our time and influencing scores of designers who came after him. 1,000 Words with… David Hunkins

After a concert lighting experience that opened his eyes at a young age, David Hunkins got started in live entertainment production and never looked back. He designed and teched shows in high school and college. In fact, he was so busy working to pay for a college theater education, he left school to work… and eat. His early career days were spent in the Milwaukee area working as a stagehand on lighting and scenery projects for theater, music, fashion shows, and events. Did You Check it in the Shop?

By now, most of you should know the number one rule in the entertainment business: “Never Assume.” By this we mean, never assume a lot of stuff. You can never really assume you are going on a gig until you step foot on a plane to take you there. You can’t assume that because you spent days designing something, your client will like it. And you can’t assume that everyone responsible for pulling your gear for this gig tested everything before it left the shop.
