PITTSBURGH, PA — The 2009 Pittsburgh Festival of Lights is featuring a five-minute projection work, Palimpsest, designed by E/T/C London’s Ross Ashton. Marguerite Jarrett Marks, a curator and organizer of the festival, which is run by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, commissioned Ashton for the show.

PUYALLUP, WA — Advanced Broadcast Solutions (ABS) and Experience Church.tv have set the second Audio, Visual, Lighting Conference and Expo (AVL Expo) for Nov. 6-7, 2009. Representatives from more than 100 churches attended the inaugural AVL Expo last March.

MIAMI — FUNA installed used a Medialon show and media control system for the 1,000-seat Solstice Theatre for the recently-built Celebrity Solstice cruise ship — the first of five — which sails the Caribbean with up to 2,850 guests and more than 1,250 crew members.

NEW YORK — There may have been five tons of sand covering the concrete floor and radio-controlled boats plying a miniature ocean set up in the loft gallery at Milk Studios, but for LD Seth Bernstein, figuring out how to light the launch of designer Scott Sternberg’s Band of Outsiders fashions with a Malibu theme wasn’t exactly a day at the beach.

ARLINGTON, TX — The huge video display hanging in the center of the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium isn’t the only video element fans have been encountering lately. The football team’s management also opted to install eight Daktronics portable modular LED displays on their new stadium’s outdoor plaza.

NEW YORK — Scharff Weisberg lit “Learning Tents” for two professional golf events this summer, working on behalf of Momentum Worldwide.  The events were the US Open 2009 in Farmingdale, N.Y. and the 91st PGA Championship in Chaska, Minn., where a second hospitality tent for corporate VIPs was added.  Scharff Weisberg supplied all the lighting and A/V equipment for the venues.
