    LOS ANGELES - For the first time in approximately 20 years, the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles (SCLA) returned to the Japanese Garden on the grounds of the VA West Los Angeles Healthcare Center campus with their summer production of As You Like It, directed by Royal Shakespeare Company artist Kenn Sabberton. The Center chose the location partly because Artistic Director Ben Donenberg remembered the beauty of the space when they performed there in the early 1990s, but also as a continuation of their work to make Shakespeare vital for everyone—in this case, veterans.

    In Memoriam: Jeremy Choate, 33

    HOUSTON — Jeremy Choate, a lighting designer based here, who was known for distinctive designs for theatrical and dance performances, died Aug. 12 after being struck by a car while stopped at an intersection on his motorcycle. News reports said that the driver of the vehicle left the scene on foot before police arrived. Police have identified the driver as Shannon Garcia, 25, and were conducting a search for her whereabouts.

    NEW ORLEANS – The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) 2012 annual meeting, held in New Orleans last month, drew nearly 8,000 visitors to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. In the lighting rig were 60 Elation Professional Platinum Beam 5R units. The fixture was chosen because its high output and strong beam definition could cut through thick video wash lights, said Scott Renick of Dodd Technologies.

LD Mike Swinford used 55 Sharpys on the CMA Music Festival and 16 Sharpys on the Chesney/McGraw tour. Programmer Mark Butts, a grandMA2 beta tester, is specifying the console on all his new projects, he says.
