MIDDLETON, WI – Official games for the new NFL season start on Sept. 7th, but the season really began in April at the NFL Draft. The 2017 draft took place in Philadelphia for the first time since 1961, and to commemorate its return, the NFL supersized the entire affair. They shut down streets, took over the “Rocky Steps” at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and even painted the sides of skyscrapers with real-time draft info and team marks (logos) pixel-mapped up to 47-stories high.

Marc Callaghan, who co-founded Liteup Events with Kris Box, has been working as crew chief on the tour.

LOS ANGELES – Although the recent total eclipse of the sun dominated headlines another celestial-themed event also attracted crowds in August.  Moonrise, the annual EDM festival held at Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course, drew fans to its four stages where an array of Claypaky fixtures and grandMA2 consoles supported a lineup of DJs, bands and rappers. Moonrise 2017, which grew out of the Starscape rave in Baltimore, marked its fourth year at the Pimlico location.  It ran from noon to 11 pm on August 12 and 13.

In Memoriam: Harry Sandler, 73

MT. VERNON, NY – Harry Sandler, a revered tour manager for top acts and well-known photographer, died Sept. 2 after a short battle with cancer. He was 73. Sandler, who lived with music promoter Debra Rathwell in Mt. Vernon, NY, was tour manager for The Eagles, Van Halen and Bruce Springsteen, among others. Along with his role as tour manager and longtime associate with Irving Azoff, he was also a renowned photographer, first for rock acts and later for landscapes, and he focused on that since semi-retiring from the live music business in 2008.
