Wally Russell Foundation Makes 25th Annual $7,500 Contribution for LA Opera’s Lighting Intern Program

LOS ANGELES – The Wally Russell Foundation has now provided annual funding to the Los Angeles Opera totaling over $187,500.00 since the foundation was formed following the untimely death of Wally Russell in 1992. The Wally Foundation, founded in 1992, also supports a similar intern program at the Canadian Opera Company and annually provides an award to the Wally Russell Mentor of the Year in partnership with USITT, and frequently provides a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Total Structures Hosts 2017 Outdoor Structures & Rigging Workshop

VENTURA CA – Rain, cold temperatures, and hail weren’t what anyone had in mind when the 2017 edition of Total Structures’ Truss, Hoist, Rigging and Outdoor Structures workshop announced its January dates, but that is what everyone got. The school’s 26 attendees, representing 14 companies, didn’t let the weather get in the way of a great week of learning during the five day program. Held at the company’s California headquarters from Jan. 23-27, this year’s workshop would cover five days of instruction and discussion.

One OK Rock Brings Bandit Lites on North American Tour

NOTTINGHAM, UK – Since opening its doors in 1980, Nottingham’s 2,500-capacity Rock City has showcased some of biggest names in music. Last year, the iconic club won its 10th consecutive Kerrang! Award as Venue of the Year. However, even legends need to upgrade their visual presentation. Recognizing this, the club decided to upgrade its lighting system. To accomplish this, its lighting technician Mark Merry specified an array of CHAUVET Professional fixtures, including 24 PVP S5 LED panels, 12 Rogue RH1 Hybrid moving heads, and 8 COLORdash Batten-Quad 6 LED strips.

LOS ANGELES – Country music star Brantley Gilbert has launched The Devil Don’t Sleep tour playing arenas in North America through early spring in the first leg. The tour supports Gilbert’s new album of the same name. Nathan Alves and Howard Jones co-designed the show, which features Claypaky Scenius, Mythos2, Sharpy and Stormy Strobe fixtures as well as grandMA2 light consoles.

Banff Gondola Terminal Equipped with ETC LED Fixtures

BANFF, Alberta, Canada — To light the recently opened Banff Gondola Terminal for maximum visitor eye appeal while keeping energy consumption to a minimum, LD Josh Starr’s design called for ETC Source Four Mini fixtures and Selador Desire D22 track-mount units. Christie Lites supplied the gear, and Michael Pyatt of GES served as project manager for the design team.

USITT 2017 Election Results Announced

SYRACUSE, NY – A new president, secretary, vice presidents of commissions and six directors were chosen in the most recent USITT Board of Directors Election. The board oversees leadership of USITT, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, the national non-profit for performing arts design and technology professionals. USITT’s President-Elect, Dan Culhane, will begin his three-year term as president beginning June 30, 2018.
