LOS ANGELES — On a tour where the only constant is uncertainty about each day’s lighting rig, perks like ease of use, flexibility and quick programming make up the hat trick of must-haves. Lighting designers Danny Sinclair and Alex Furlan depend on Avolites consoles and media servers to provide all three, a fact perfectly exemplified on their recent tour with classic rocker Joe Walsh, which carried a compact Avolites Quartz lighting control console paired with a Titan Mobile Wing, plus Avolites’ Ai media servers to run the tour’s video imaging.

LAS VEGAS – Wenger Corporation and J.R. Clancy will unveil the U.S. launch of their new branding campaign – The Creativity of Engineering – at the Live Design International (LDI) trade show and conference in Las Vegas this week. The campaign’s theme and messaging will be carried throughout new trade show booth graphics, signage and sales materials, all emphasizing six key capabilities of the combined companies: Stage Engineering, Staging, Acoustics, Control Automation, Audience Seating and Custom Capabilities.

LAS VEGAS – Morpheus Lights, the U.S. distributor of Ayrton™ LED luminaires, will present a 240-fixture display of new Ayrton LED products at LDI 2016, Booth #2059, from Oct. 21-23. The exhibit will feature the brand-new, zoom-equipped MagicPanel™-FX projector (pictured here) and the new MagicBurst™ graphic strobe luminaire, along with IntelliPix™-XT, VersaPix™-RS and AlienPix™-RS fixtures. The exhibit will also introduce two exciting new variations of the award-winning MagicDot™-R: the scaled up MagicDot™-XT and the zoom-equipped MagicDot™-SX.

LAS VEGAS — When the house lights dimmed at the iHeartRadio Festival 2016, the lighting system, designed by Tom Kenny, included one of the largest rigs of Solaris Flares ever: 222 of the popular 1 kilowatt LED fixtures, with an amazing maximum potential output of over 7 million lumens. Taking place in the brand new T-Mobile Arena on 23-24 September, the sold out show made music history once again. With performances by artists such as U2, Sting, Usher, Sia, Ariana Grande, Twenty One Pilots, Tears For Fears, Britney Spears, and many more, it was an event that made way for some of the most exciting live music of the year, in a visual setting enhanced by stunning lighting and effects.

LAS VEGAS — TMB announced plans to debut its new Q+ Technology at the LDI show in Las Vegas this week. Now available in the Solaris Flare, this new LED driver technology is designed to maximize LED output while also optimizing LED temperatures for long term reliability. The Flare Q+ fixture promises a 40 percent increase in brightness while keeping noise from cooling fans to a minimum.

 NYC – Music icon Alicia Keys gave fans a special treat in anticipation of her upcoming album “Here” with a surprise concert held in Times Square on October 9. Taking the stage on Sunday night, Alicia Keys turned one of the world’s most iconic landmarks into an experiential audio-visual wonderland. GOOD COMPANY lent its talents to handle the spectrum of post production for the content, which was featured on 12 billboards surrounding the concert, completing the editing, animation and VFX in order to bring the dazzling visual feast to life.

NASHVILLE — For the Americana Honors and Awards Show, a highlight of the 17th annual Americana Music Festival & Conference, which was held in Nashville in late September, LD Robert Peterson of Real World Lighting and his associate designer Monica Rose lit the famous stage at the Ryman Auditorium with Chauvet Professional COLORado fixtures.

VACAVILLE, CA – For up-and-coming singer Taryn Cross, “Break Some Rules” is more than the title of her latest recording; it also describes her adventurous approach to music. Cross, who has opened for country stars like Eric Church, Joe Nichols and Randy Travis, has been more than ready to bend and break musical boundaries by blending her Nashville sound with rock and indie influences – all while infusing it with a sultry undertone that is all her own.

GEORGE, WA — USC Events’ inaugural 2016 Magnifique Festival took place Sept. 17 at the Gorge Amphitheater, featuring a lineup that included Kaskade, Chromeo, Gramatik, Duke Dumont, Netsky, and Mija. Production designer Erik Mahowald turned to LMG for a rig that included Martin MAC Viper Profiles, Robe Pointes, Robe Robin 600 LEDWash fixtures, Chroma-Q Color Force 48s and Showline Nitro LED strobes.

LAS VEGAS — PLSN’s LDI booth #623 will be featuring a wide selection of book titles listed on plsnbookshelf.com. For two of the newest titles, authors will be on hand sign copies of their books at the show. Paul Dexter will sign Concert Lighting, a book he co-wrote with Jim Moody, now in its fourth edition, on Friday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. Longtime PLSN contributor Brad Schiller will be signing the just-released third edition of his book, The Automated Lighting Programmer’s Handbook, on Saturday, Oct. 22 at noon.

NEW YORK – Like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Radio City Rockettes, the Jingle Ball Tour concert at Madison Square Garden has become one of the Big Apple’s iconic holiday events. Pharrell Williams, Calvin Harris and Maroon 5 have performed at the annual show; so too have Selena Gomez, The Weeknd and One Republic. This year’s concert will be just as diverse and star studded with Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, The Chainsmokers, Meghan Trainor, Fifth Harmony, Ellie Goulding, Diplo, Charlie Puth, Lukas Graham, Daya, and Niall Horan scheduled to appear.
