VENTURA, CA – Total Structures announced that, after successful testing of several models, Pointman Electric Chain Hoists have been approved for use with the Elevation drive system from Kinesys. Currently hoists are available in 1⁄4 Ton, 1⁄2 Ton and 1 Ton capacities, with maximum speeds ranging from 40 to more than 70 feet per minute. All units have the added benefit of complying with the D8+ hoist standard common throughout Europe, offering a 10:1 design factor, dual brake assemblies, and overtravel limit switches.

ATLANTA – Rapper Gucci Mane recently made his grand comeback at The Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia with production design by DK Production Design LLC and full lighting, audio, and video production support by JR Lighting Design, Inc. The production featured special appearances by Drake, Two Chainz, and Fetty Wap. Production Designer Daunte Kenner and Lighting Designer Brandon J. Clark from DK Production Design reached out to JR Lighting one week prior to the show (having previously worked together on the Tinashe World Tour).

SWITZERLAND –  The Gotthard Base Tunnel, a milestone feat of human engineering that cost nine lives and $12+ billion over 17 years of construction, is officially open. Traversing 37.5 miles beneath the Swiss Alps, and including more than 93 miles of tube excavation for rail service between Erstfeld and Bodio, the project drew even more notice with a decidedly avant garde opening ceremony staged by Volker Hesse on June 1. The lighting design by LD Rolf Derrer made use of 140 GLP impression X4 Bars, supplied by Wohlen-based Winkler Multi Media Events.

FREDERICK, MD – Parlights, Inc. has become the most recent member of A.C.T Lighting, Inc.’s dot2 Preferred Stocking Dealer program.  Launched earlier this year, the program is open to select dealerships, which stock MA Lighting’s dot2 family of consoles and offer system training and support.  A.C.T Lighting is the exclusive distributor of MA Lighting products in North America.

LAS VEGAS – Tweny years after the first Electric Daisy Carnival, and the sixth year since the event moved from the Los Angeles area to Las Vegas, EDC 2016 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway updated the Circuit Grounds performance arena by expanding it enough to accommodate twice as many people as previous years. To light the massive area, production and lighting designer Steve Lieberman of SJ Lighting used nearly 850 Elation Professional LED luminaires.

LAS VEGAS – Along with a 10,000-square-foot tent devoted to the sale of fireworks, the Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza offers 4th of July pyro enthusiasts an open space in the desert where they can ignite their purchases and light up the night sky. This year, the two-day Moapa Madness Festival offered a stage with live music as well. LD Steven Brody used 16 Q-Wash 419Z RGBW LED washes from Chauvet Professional LED fixtures. Kilroy’s Lighting & Production supplied the gear.

LAS VEGAS – Belgium based automations, engineering and scenic construction specialist WIcreations was asked by staging experts StageCo, working for Insomniac the production company, to produce key scenic elements of the circuitGROUNDS stage at the 2016 Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) dance extravaganza. The event was staged at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and attracting around 450,000 people over three days with a stellar line-up of the best DJs embracing multiple musical genres.

COLUMBUS, OH – The 2016 annual high school graduation ceremony for the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow (ECOT), an online public community school, was staged at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, OH, where close to 12,000 people watched more than 1,300 students graduate. Zachary Durban lit the event with 80 Robe BMFL WashBeams and 28 Pointes supplied by Loud and Clear, a lighting and audio rental company based in the Cincinnati area.

That’s right, even though the voting for the Hometown Hero Awards won’t slam shut until Aug. 8, the door for Parnelli Awards nominations is now wide open, until Aug. 24. And if you haven’t done so, you can also nominate a product for an Indispensable Technologies “IT” Award this month as well.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – For this year’s Miss Florida USA pageant, which selects the young lady who will represent the state in the next Miss USA competition, Abbas Ritscher of The Design Oasis and lighting designer Charles Brennan lit those competing for the coveted crown within 1,167-seat Parker Playhouse with a rig that included ten Rogue R1 FX-B fixtures from Chauvet Professional.

PARIS – French wholesaler LA BS, who has been supplying professionals and end users for 25 years, has signed an exclusive distribution partnership with GLP for its lighting fixture solutions in France. With more than 45 employees, LA BS will now distribute the complete impression series range for GLP.
