CHICAGO – The 81st NFL Draft returned to the Second City’s Grant Park to create Draft Town, a 900,000 square foot mini metropolis. C3 Presents commissioned Bandit Lites to provide lighting, crew and logistics for more than a dozen areas of Draft Town, including the NFL Autograph Stage, NFL Photo Op Stage, The Ferris Wheel, The NFL Lombardi Trophy, The NFL Museum, The NFL Draft Tavern, site lighting, two SL-100 stages, The Draft Town Entrance, The Buckingham Fountain and the outside of the Selection Square structure.

LOS ANGELES – For a well-received production of Madame Butterfly that was staged at the 3,000-plus capacity Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at Los Angeles this spring, lighting designer Rick Fisher used GLP’s impression X4 Bar 20 battens. Fisher had lit the same opera before, in 2010, at the Santa Fe Opera. The Los Angeles production, however, was in a significantly bigger venue. The fixtures helped him scale up the production to meet the needs of the larger space.

SAN CARLOS, CA – WorldStage San Francisco, formerly Tekamaki, hosted the spring edition of its Technology Open House in its San Carlos, CA location.  The semi-annual event brought together the top technical minds from all five WorldStage locations.  They demonstrated a cross-section of new off-the-shelf technology, custom technology, and R&D projects from the WorldStage Inventions and Lab teams.

INDIO, CA. – Elation Professional LED lighting was used in several tents as well as on the Outdoor Theatre at this year’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival. Elation lights were also used for site lighting including uplighting of the festival’s well-loved rows of palm trees in rainbows of festive color.

SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT — Higher Ground Music Hall, which opened in 2004, is known for bringing in national and international jam band, jazz and indie acts.  The venue recently upgraded its lighting rig, adding Rogue R1 Spots, R1 Washes and R2 Washes from Chauvet Professional.

ATLANTA – Active Production and Design, Inc. was awarded three Allie Awards on March 6: Best Audio Visual Design, Best Event Innovation and Best Use of Media and Technology. The event took place at the Georgia Aquarium. The Allie Awards were founded in 1991 to honor those in the catering and special event industries in the Atlanta area. They were conceived by Tim Lundy, CSEP, who was on the boards of the Atlanta regional chapters of National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) and the International Special Events Society (ISES).

SAN ANGELO, TX  – For country artist Aaron Watson’s current tour in support of last year’s album, The Underdog, production designer LD Erich Meitzner is working with a rig that includes Rogue R1 Wash and R1 Spot fixtures from Chauvet Professional. 4Wall Entertainment Lighting is supplying the gear.

MIAMI – For La Banda, the Simon Cowell/Ricky Martin TV singing competition in search of teen talent for the next big Latin boy band, LD Tom Sutherland and lighting director/programmer Craig Caserta included fixtures from Chauvet Professional in the rig. There are 16 Nexus 4×4 COB LED panels, 40 COLORdash Accent RGBW fixtures and 20 COLORado 1-Tri Tour par style units, as well as a variety of hybrids, moving beams, spots and washes.

LAS VEGAS – LD Steven Douglas worked with Ambersphere Solutions to incorporate Ayrton’s MagicDot-R fixtures within a large “K”-shaped element for The Killers’ live shows. The supporting framework was constructed by All Access Staging.

LAS VEGAS – Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas celebrated its 10th anniversary on April 23, 2016 with a fireworks and lighting show featuring Syncrolite XL Xenon searchlights that filled the sky over the resort in an eight-minute choreographed lighting, fireworks and audio display. The 45 XL’s were placed in three groups of 15 fixtures around the resort creating a huge stage for the aerial art. Veteran crew chief TJ Benton along with Travis Slater and Travis Braudaway were on hand to set-up and execute a flawless light show. Syncrolite coordinated the performance with Fireworks by Grucci who designed and produced the show, one of the largest fireworks display ever hosted by a single venue in Las Vegas.
