LOUISVILLE, KY – Since late-November, visitors to Louisville’s South Fourth Street dining, entertainment and shopping district have been treated to some festive architectural “eye candy” thanks to Axxis, Inc., a local production design firm, that installed 25 elektraLite 1018 LED fixtures illuminating building façades along the street.

NASHVILLE – Some of the University of Tennessee’s top students, including Hannah Robison and Josh Dobbs, who are, respectively, Miss Tennessee and UT’s football team QB, arrived at Legislative Plaza in Nashville February 17 to meet with Tennessee legislators during the 10th Annual UT Day on the Hill. Bandit Lites provided Vari*Lite VL 2500s to cover the room with patterns and colors, while GRNLite LED Battens lit the upper balcony walls. ZR 44 smoke machines gave the senators and representatives a dramatic entrance. Additional lighting came from custom UT gobos shot with ETC 5 degree ellipsoidal, while the stage lighting and control was provided by the venue.

PHILADELPHIA – For American rock band Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, which performed at the Fillmore in Philadelphia to ring in 2016, LD Jason Liggett used Elation Professional’s eMOTION moving head digital light. The eMOTION is Elation’s new plug and play DMX moving light with an on-board media server developed in cooperation with High End Systems. Utilizing only 32 DMX channels (54 in extended mode), it houses royalty-free digital art and videos with the ability to upload custom content.

SANTA CLARA, CA – At Super Bowl 50, there was no shortage of temporary broadcast studios and stage structures to accommodate all the sports media covering the big game. Filmwerks International, based in Rocky Point, NC, handled the design, construction, and power for many of the studios. Filmwerks used nearly 1,000 pieces of ModTruss to erect seven broadcast structures including multiple NFL Network Super Bowl structures in the Media Center, field location, and at the Super Bowl City main entrance. Filmwerks also built the CBS Sports’ Stadium location and provided additional support for the flying camera systems.

SALT LAKE CITY – USITT’s 2016 Annual Conference & Stage Expo comes to Salt Lake City March 16-19. More than 5,000 members of the production industry are expected to attend the event, which promises to turn the Salt Palace Convention Center into a spectacle of lights, projection, costumes, props, sound and special effects from fog to flying.

MARBURG, Germany – Every year, during Marburg b(u)y Night, Marburg city center lights up: more than sixty public and private buildings become the stars of the show, and the shops stay open until midnight. The centerpiece of the event this year was the “Blickpunkt Schloss” project: the medieval landgraves’ castle was lit up on the hour and half hour starting from 6 pm with a time coded light and music show. Flashlight Veranstaltungstechnik GmbH saw to the event’s lighting needs. LD/programmer/operator Sebastian Haffer used 39 Clay Paky Mythos units with a grandMA light and onPC command wing for control.

NASHVILLE – For country act Maddie & Tae, LD Larry Foote is providing a multitude of distinctive lighting looks with one fixture: the Nexus 4×4 COB LED panel from Chauvet Professional. Foote positioned the Nexus panels on upstage pipe and base stands. The ability to light individual cells on each fixture in different configurations allows for the same fixtures to provide many different looks and effects.

WASHINGTON, DC – John Farr, president and CEO of John Farr Lighting Design, oversees event design and production services for events at Washington DC’s most prominent venues. He was impressed with the Ovation E-910FC RGBA-Lime color mixing ellipsoidal from Chauvet Professional and opted to add it to his company’s inventory. LOS ANGELES – For Jason Derulo’s performance during the 42nd People’s Choice Awards, Clay Paky Scenius fixtures served as the main effects lights.  The event, which honored achievement in 2015, were held January 6, 2016 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS.  Emmy-winner Allen Branton was the show’s lighting designer; Felix Peralta, Kevin Lawson and Darren Langer were the lighting directors. A.C.T Lighting, Inc. is the exclusive distributor of Clay Paky fixtures in North America.

NASHVILLE – Bandit Lites continues to support Vince Gill on the road with his tour promoting his latest album, Down to my Last Bad Habit. Lighting designer Dylan Mire’s tour rig includes Vari*Lite VL2500 Spots, Robe CycFX8 fixtures, Martin MAC Auras, Bandit’s own GRNLite Pars and Chauvet COLORDash fixtures along with a grandMA1 console for control.
