LOS ANGELES – When a magnet high school for the performing arts in the San Francisco Bay area needed to upgrade its theater it called on DSC Design of Novato, CA to design an upgraded lighting system.  DSC Design specified an all-LED lighting design and a new dot2 XL-F lighting console from MA Lighting.  A.C.T Lighting, Inc. is the exclusive distributor of MA Lighting products in North America.

NEW YORK — The North American Theatre Engineering and Architecture Conference (NATEAC) announced the panel lineup for its upcoming conference. The event is set for the Roosevelt Hotel in New York on July 17 and 18, 2016. Session topics range from LED Power Requirements to Gender Issues In Public Assembly Place Bathrooms, Immersive Environments and the 21st Century Audience and Greening Initiatives in Theatres.

NASHVILLE – With only weeks away until the music industry gathers for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, Nashville’s Grammy chapter gathered for an evening of celebration with nominees such as Little Big Town, Ashley Monroe, Point of Grace and Mr. Talkbox. Bandit Lites provided a lighting package for the event with Chris Lisle Lighting Design and Erik Parker as programmer.

BRONXVILLE, NY – More than 90 years of continual use from graduations, plays, recitals, and assemblies had left the Bronxville Union Free School District auditorium in need of a change. Now, after an extensive renovation by a team that included Theatre Projects, KG&D Architects, and Acoustic Distinctions, the aging 1920s room has been reborn as an intimate, striking, and versatile theatre, capable of meeting every one of the district’s needs.

SALT LAKE CITY – USITT noted that 10 up-and-coming theatre artists will get special recognition through its Young Designers & Technicians Awards program with a ceremony set for March 17, during the association’s annual convention. The YD&T Awards honor designers and technicians early in their careers. It is supported with funding from industry sponsors. This year’s awards ceremony will also feature remarks by Steve Younkins, creator of Q2Q Comics, a web comic devoted to theatre tech. Zhao is due to receive an MFA degree from the University of California-San Diego the same month as the USITT event.

MAINZ, Germany – HELi Showequipment GmbH of Mainz added 150 of Elation’s ACL 360i single-beam moving effects as well as a supply of Elation’s ACL 360 Bar color-changing bar luminaires with continuous rotation to its inventory. NASHVILLE – Bandit Lites added to the Clay Paky fixtures in its inventory with its recent acquisition of Mythos and Spheriscan fixtures. LDs Mike Swinford and Nick Whitehouse are using Mythos fixtures for Jason Aldean and Thomas Rhett, respectively. LD Butch Allen has also been using Bandit-supplied Spheriscan fixtures (pictured here).

PROVIDENCE, RI – Luis Vargas has been bringing the Bachata beat to venues far from his homeland in Dominican Republic, expanding its popularity to a crossover crowd with his performances on electric guitar. At the Roxy venue in Providence, RI, LD Cody James recently used Rogue fixtures from Chauvet Professional to light Vargas’ show.

MIAMI — The sold-out Madness Fall Tour by Canadian singer, songwriter and record producer, The Weeknd, in support of his third studio album, Beauty Behind the Madness, featured a set and lighting design by LeRoy Bennett of Seven Design Works. It incorporated more than 650 lighting fixtures from Ayrton — including ‘every available IntelliPix-R fixture on the planet’ – for Bennett’s multi-faceted looks.
