Event Safety Alliance Announces Severe Weather Summit

NORMAN, OK — The Event Safety Alliance announced plans for the first Severe Weather Summit, set for March 10-11, 2015 at the National Weather Center, 120 David L Boren Boulevard in Norman, OK 73072. Co-presenters include Weather Decision Technologies, Inc. (WDT), the NOAA/National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center and Venue Management Consultants Group (VMCG). The event costs $750 to attend and includes complimentary breakfast, a wine and cheese reception and closing dinner. Members of IATSE, PLASA, USITT, or ETCP receive a 10 percent discount off the cost of registration.

Two Killed, Four Injured in Alabama Pyro Factory Accident

OWENS CROSS ROADS, AL — A Feb. 6 explosion at a pyro factory near Huntsville, AL operated by Ultratec Special Effects left two dead and four injured. One of the injured was hospitalized in critical condition; the other three reportedly received minor injuries. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and OSHA officials are investigating the accident.

Super Bowl, Halftime Show Set Record for U.S. TV Viewership

GLENDALE, AZ — The viewing audience tuning in for Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1, where the Seattle Seahawks faced off against the New England Patriots at University of Phoenix Stadium, averaged 114.4 million, topping the record number of 112.2 million who watched Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. Along with the closely contested game itself, the event featured an elaborate halftime show production with well-received performances by Katy Perry, Missy Elliott and Lenny Kravitz packed within a 12-minute span. AT&T Playoff Playlist Live was staged at American Airlines Center in Dallas and featured back­-to­-back nights of entertainment headlined by Lenny Kravitz Jan. 10 and Sting Jan. 11, just prior to the big game itself on Jan. 12 in AT&T Stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys. The Ohio State Buckeyes beat the Oregon Ducks 42-20.

LDs Taking Broadway’s “Cinderella” On Tour Get Assist from FocusTrack

NEW YORK – Following a successful run on Broadway, a touring version of Rodgers+Hammerstein’s Cinderella is hitting the road. LD Kenneth Posner and associate lighting designer John Viesta made some changes to the New York design for the road, switching the side ladder moving lights from Martin MAC 2000s to Vari*Lite VL3500s and replacing the overhead VL2500 Wash lights with LED par cans. They got an assist with that transition from FocusTrack.
