ATLANTIC CITY – For the Peavey booth at the  DJ Expo here recently, booth partner Canal Sound and Light turned to LD Jason Ayala of Jason Blends for the lighting design. Ayala specified Chauvet Professional fixtures for the project, including six Rogue R2 Spot moving heads, four Rogue R1 Beam moving heads, three Strike 882 strobe SMD panels, two COLORado 2-Quad Zoom Tour par fixtures and 32 PVP S5 LED video panels.

CHARLOTTE, NC – Heavy metal icons Mötley Crüe are currently on their Final Tour, and drummer Tommy Lee is going out in style atop a custom-made “Crüecifly” drum coaster, aka the Tommy Coaster. The distinctive structure is lined with Elation Flex LED Pixel Tape. The tour visuals were designed by LD Sooner Routhier and lighting director/programmer Matt Mills.

SUN VALLEY, FL – Tomoka Christian Church, based here, upgraded its lighting system with eight Volkslicht Spots and six impression X4 moving heads from GLP. The gear, sourced via distributors AC Lighting by the church’s AV contractor, Nate Mudge, president of system contractors and dealers Nateco, followed GLP’s fixture demo at an InfoComm trade show in Florida.

COLUMBUS, GA – LD Jay Chiari and lighting tech Brandon Thomas used 12 Q-Wash 560Z-LED moving yoke washes, six COLORado Batten 72 Tour linear washes and 18 Legend 230SR Beam moving beams from Chauvet Professional to support the looks for Fantasia Barrino’s recent tour of the southeast U.S.

LAS VEGAS — The outrageous performer and talented front man for The Tubes, Fee Waybill, will be the host for the 14th annual Parnelli Awards Nov. 22 in Las Vegas. “I’m really looking forward to this,” says Waybill. “I was actually a roadie myself before The Tubes. I’ve always had a tremendous amount of respect for the people who make our shows happen.”

LD Rob Sinclair created a powerful lighting spectacle to equal the band’s legendary status for their ‘Queen + Adam Lambert’ world tour. Using 23 x Clay Paky Sharpys, Sinclair created a dynamic floor package that matched the high-energy showmanship of the band. “The lighting design on this tour had to start big and get even bigger,” explains Sinclair. “It needed to do justice to Queen’s extensive and wonderful production heritage. I needed lights that could deliver huge looks and which had the capacity and versatility to make those looks go even bigger,” he said.

LAS VEGAS – Mack Truck called upon 4Wall Las Vegas to provide gear for a launch event celebrating a new logo for the company. “I had a great deal of building surface to try and cover in addition to lighting up six large, industrial Mack trucks, we had a 30ft by 30ft stage area for speeches, awards presentations, and a DJ. The client had a very specific color palette in mind, gold and silver. I designed fourteen 20ft tall ‘tree trusses’ that were spaced around the open piazza along with a central area of circular truss (65ft diameter) where the main bar area was located,” said LD Glenn Wade.
